One object of this invention is to devise nov-el construct-ion ef a. polishing device wherein the casingandthe filler are constructed and secured together in a novel manner A further object of this invention is to devise i nevel fillerhaving au outer ycovering which will present an attractive appearance, and an inner strip of cheaper material. The ends of this holder 11 are provided with the slots 13 through which is adapted to pass a locking member 14k of novel constructiom said locking member also passing through the slot-s 15 formed by the end extensions 6. `This locking member 14: consists of a flat strip of spring material, preferably metal, they ends of which are deflected c engage with the juxtaposed notch 0r serration of the notches or serrations 7. At each end, this locking member 14 has detachably connected therewith a grasping handle 17 preferably in the form of a ring as illustrated. One ring beingremoved, this locking member 14 passes through ,slots 18 in the filler. These slots are spaced between the seu/ing and the top folded edge of the filler.

The filler as an article of manufacture consists of the strips 9 and 10 which are folded from left to right or from right to left so as to form a lapped construction. The loclring strip 14 is passed through the slots 18 in the filler and the slots 13 in the back sov that the filler is new assembled with respect to its back 11.

rIhis back with the liller and the locking member 14 are then inserted into the casing or grasping portion. The locking member passes through the slots 15 at the end of the casing. As before explained, the locking member' 14 has a twist set in it so that the top locking portion 16 will engage one of the notches 7 at the left hand end of the casing, and the top iiange 16 at the opposite end of the locking member will engage the juxtaposed notch 7 at the top, at the right hand end of the casing. The lower flanges contacting with the smooth edges ofthe slet 15 in the extensions 6, contribute to retain the top Aflanges in locking engagement with the walls ofthe notches.

After the filler has become worn, the filler and its back, together with the locking member, may be moved outwardly, relatively to its easing, by the operator taking hold of the rings 17 and slightly twisting or turning the ends of the locking member 14 in a direction to disengage the locking'flanges from their notches. rllhe locking member, back and filler can then be moved outwardly as a unit of structure to engage an outer notch so that the filler can be made short and stili', or long and soft, or can be used until it is practically worn out.

It will be apparent that in accordance with this invention the filler can be moved outwardly from the casing until it is practically worn out, and when worn out the old filler can be readily removed and a new ller inserted, se that the casing, locking member, and back for the filler can be used for a long period of time, and the filler can be replaced as it becomes necessary.

4. A polishing device comprising a casingy open at its bottom and having a slot at each end opening through its bottom edge and having one wall of each slot provided with spaced notches, a back having a slot at each end, a laterally folded filler within said back and having slots in alignment with the end slots in said back, a locking member passing through the end slots in said back and the slots in said filler and slidable into said casing slots and having deflected portions to engage desired notches at the ends of the casing which latter overhangs said filler to stiffen it, whereby when the filler and bacl: are adjusted outwardly of the casing the polishing device will be soft and flexible, and when secured a further distance into the casingfthe filler is stiffer and less flexible.
