PHINEAS S. UNDERHILL, OF FORT WAYNE, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN- LAMP-BURNERS Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 167,714, dated September 14, 18 75; appiieation filed v August 4, 1 875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, P. S. UNDERHILL, of Fort Wayne, in the county of Allen and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lamp-Burners; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is aside elevation of my burner attached to a lamp, and Fig. 2 is a'vertical section of the same.
Corresponding parts in the two figures are denoted by like letters.
This invention relates to a certain improve ment in lamp-burners, and is particularly adapted to lamps for streets, halls, &c. It
consists of the combination, with aforaminated burner, of a surrounding cylinder or shield,
between which is an air chamber or space,
- foraminated portion of the burner to shield the perforations from the force of the wind of the burner to the flame of the lamp-wickj To secure the-cylinder or shield B in position upon the lamp it is provided with an .inner annular flange, b, .down upon which the burner A fits when screwed to the neck of the 1 lamp, clamping the said flange in place.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The cylinder or shield B in combination with the foraminated burner A, an air space or chamber being provided between the same,
substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The cylinder or shield 13,8 having the flange b, and burner A, in combination, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
