NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MARCUS ORMOND, OF WEST ALEXANDER, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPRovEMl-:NT IN PLows.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 167,686, dated September 14, 1875; application filed September 9, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARCUS ORMOND, of West Alexander, Washington county, Pennsylvania, have invented an Improvement in Plows, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to form a plow that will do the usual amount of lwork with less power.
I- present a drawing ofthe plow and the following description:
A is a short beam about forty-two inches in length, that oi' the old plow being about sixtyfour, thus bringing the power nearer the resistance, the point and power being only about nineteen inches apart. B is the point, and is made to form a complete Wedge, with the cutters being set with more slant, thus doing their work easier, and also dispensing with the usual projection of the ordinary colter'at the point B', the objection to the ordinary point being that in case roots, 85e., should get behind the projection the plow could not be withdrawn. The point-share and colter are formed in one piece.' C represents the landside, and c the mold-board, they being much longer than those of the ordinary plow, which will insure regularity of motion. D is the clevis, and consists in a short bar;E, facing the projections of the clevis, and kept in position by the spiral springs F. The clevis is made longer than ordinary, and is so arranged that the bar E canbe moved backward to allow the ring G to be properly adjusted.
I claim as my invention- `1. The clevis D, having slots d on its upper and lower arms, and the sliding bar E held against the notches of the clevis by the springs F, substantially as shown and described.
2. The point-share B and colter B made in one piece, thecolter standing nearly Ver tical and ending in a short, small point, the rear of the colter being deeply grooved to fit upon av lug or projection, b, upon the front edge 0f the plow-frame, all constructed substantially as shown and described. i
