Description

July 3, 1 928.
T. L. LYNAM LEMON SQUEEZER Filed Sept. 15, 1927 Patented July 3, 19 28 PATENT OFFICE.
THORNTON LEWIS LYNAM, OF DARTMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS.
LEMON SQUEEZER.
Application filed September 13, 1927.
The present invention relates to a household article for squeezing lemons and the like and has for its prime object to provide a device of this nature which may be constructed of flexible material such as paper or the like so that it may b manufactured at a very low cost. I
Another important object of the nvention resides in the provision of a device of this nature which may be constructed from a single sheet of suitable flexible material folded and pasted so as to provide a receptacle in which a lemon may be placed and the lower end thereof being tapered and provided with an opening so that the receptacle may be squeezed to squeeze the lemon and allow the juice to flow through the opening for seasoning purposes or the like.
A still further important object of the invention resides in the provision of a struc ture of this nature which is thoroughly efiicient and reliable for the purpose designed.
With the above and numerous other ob- 2 jects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel details of construction as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a perspective view showing one use of the device,
Figure 2 is an elevation of the device, and,
Figure 3 is a plan view showing the device before the same is folded.
Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that a single sheet of paper or like material is provided cut in the shape shown in Figure 3 to provide an oblong side 5 and an oblong side 6 integrally joined together along the line 7. Each of the sides 5 and 6 are provided with tapered extensions at one end denoted respectively at 8 and 9.
The extension 9 is provided with a notch 10 while the extension 8 is provided with a pair of side flaps 11. A sid flap 12 is provided on the free side edge of the side 5.
Serial No. 219,268.
The side 5 at its upper end is longer than the side 6 so as to provide a closure extension 14.
The side 6 is folded over upon the side 5 along the line 7 and the flaps 11 are folded over upon the tapered extension 9 and pasted thereto and the flap 12 is folded over upon the side 6 and pasted thereto as is indicated in Figur 2. Thus I provide a bag-like structure with a tapered bottom end having an opening provided by the notch 10 at the apex thereof. A lemon or the like may be placed in the bag and the cover extension 14 folded over as is indicated in Figure 2 and then the receptacle may be squeezed so that the lemon or like juice will drop down through the opening provided in the apex of the tapered lower extension onto meat, or the like.
It will be apparent that a device of this nature may be manufactured in large quantities at a very low cost and will be useful around restaurants and in numerous other different ways as will be quite apparent from time to time.
The present embodiment of the invention has been disclosed in detail since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description. It will be apparent that changes may be made in the details of construction, in the sizes and in the materials without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is 1. As a new article of manufacture, a lemon squeezer formed from a single sheet of flexible material cut to provide an oblong side, a second oblong side integrally joined to one side edge of the first side, the first side having a tapered lower end formed with side flaps and the side edge of the first side being provided with a flap, the second side having a tapered lower end 90 formed with a notch at its apex, said second side adapted to be folded over upon the first side and the flaps being adapted to be pasted to the second side.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a lemon squeezer formed from a single sheet of flexible material cut to provide an oblong side, a second oblong side integrally joined being provided with a flap, the second side having a tapered lower end formed with a notch at'its apex, said second side adapted to be folded over upon the first side and the flaps being adapted to be pasted to the sec- 16 0nd side, said first side having its upper end extended to provide a closure.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
