Description

T. WHITE.
Heating-Stays,
Patented Sept 7,1875.
NPETERS. PHOTO LTHOGRAPHER. WASHINGTON D C THOMAS WHITE, OF
PATENT QUINCY, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEM ENT IN HEATING-STOVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 167,594, dated September 7, 1875; application filed June 29, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS WHITE, of Quincy, in the county of Adams and State of Illinois, have invented an Improvement in Heating Stoves, of which the following is a specification The nature of my invention relates to an improvementin horizontal oval heating-stoves for wood; and has for its object to so construct the same that the cast-iron linings can be fitted and fastened in after the stove is mounted and put together. The invention consists in providing the plates with certain lugs and hooks for locking them together.
Figure l is a perspective view of the stove with aportion of the outer shell or casing broken away to show the linings. Fig. 2 is a crosssection at a: :12. Figs. 3 and 4 are perspective views of' the side plates of the lining. Fig. 5 is a similar view of the bottom lining-plate.
In the drawing, A represents the front head, and A the back head, of a horizontal oval stove, the said heads being each provided with a flange, a, for the sheetiron outer casing B to slip over, and an inner flange, a, to receive the linings, which are of cast-iron; a bottom plate, 0, a side plate, and a side plate, 0 with a flue-stop flange at the top edge, which plates can be introduced and placed in position through the door-opening, after the stove is mounted. The bottom plate is cast with an L-flange, b, at each side, and has, also, two stops, 0, either molded on or riveted to the inner face, to project above the edge, between which and the outer edge of the flange b the bottom edge of the side plate is received and supported. The latter is provided with a hook. d, to hook under the flange, and keep said side plate from lifting out of place. There is a socket-flange, 6, just within and below the top ends of the flange a, a notch,f, being made in each end of the side plate to slip over it. A turn-buckle, g, is pivoted on each plate behind each notch f, and locks the said plate in position by dropping into socket e.
The lining makes an elliptic diving and upreturn flue, the smoke finding an exit at the pipe-collar at the right side of the shell, under the flue-stop of the side plate 0 What I claim as my invention is- In combination, the lining-plate 0, having the flanges b b and stops 0 c, and the liningplates 0 0 having the hooks d, notches f, and buckles g, constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
THOMAS WHITE.
