This invention relates to new and useful improvements in devices for fac1l1tat1 ng the straightening of human hair and a1ms to provide a highly novel and simple (l6V1C6 that may be personally employed 1n the strai htening of hair and whereby the result will be attained in a relativel short time and with little or no liability o burning the hair, scalp or hands of the user. I

An important object is to provide a device of this character that conslsts of but few elements, and these so arranged as to reduce the possibility of disarrangement to a minimum. H

With the foregoing and Qtherob ects in view as the nature of the invention will be better understood, the same comprises the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, 20 shown in the accompanying drawlngs and claimed.

In the drawings wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views: Figure 1 is a top plan v1ew of my 1mproved hair straightener.

Now having particular reference to the drawings, my novel hair straightener consists of an elongated body 5 of hollow metal construction and substantially semi-circular in cross section. Within this hollow body 5 isan electric heating coil 6. This body is' formed with end walls 7-7, while one longitudinal edge of the body extends above the upper edges of these end walls and is formed with spaced combing teeth 8. At the inner end wall of the body there is formed or constructed a pocket 9, while extending an longitudinally therefrom is a handle 10,

through which extends a conductor wire 11 havin electrical connection with the heating coil 6 within said body 5.

The outer end wall 7 is formed at its upper edge with a perpendicular notch 12 while the inner end wall which is of circular formation is provided with an eccentric circular opening 13, the edge of this opening at the center of the end wall being provided w th a notch 14:. Furthermore, secured within this opening is a curved leaf s ring 15 the end of which normally overlies t e notch 14 as disclosed in Figure 5.

The invention further consists of a hollow roller or mandrel 16 having pintles 17-17 at its opposite ends for engagement within the notch 12 and notch 14 of the opposite end walls 7-7 as in Figures 5 and 7. The inner pintle 17 is arranged within the notch 14 through the instrumentalities of the curved leaf spring 15,,while pivoted to the outer end wall 7 is a latch 18 for engagement over the pintle to prevent raising of the same within said notch.

Beyondthe inner end wall 7 the innermost intle of the roller or mandrel is equipe with a small pulley 19 while arranged within thepocket 9 of the body 5 is a small electric motor 20 the armature shaft of which is equipped with a small pulley 21 trained over which and the roller pintle pulley 19 is an endless belt 22 so that when the motor 20 is operatinga rotation of the roller or mandrel 16 will result.

The diameter of this roller or mandrel 16 is such that the same will have at least slight spaced relation with the body 5 so as to permit the hair extending through the teeth 8 of the body to move onto the body and thus by the rotation of the roller or mandrel the hair coming into contact with the heated body will be ironed out by said roller or mandrel.

In view of the foregoing description when considered in conjunction with the accompanying drawings it will be apparent that I have provided a highly novel, simple and useful hair straightening device that is well adapted for all the urposes heretofore designated, even thoug I have herein shown and described the invention as consisting of certain detai structural elements, it is nevertheless tof" e understood that some chan es may be ade therein without affecting t e spirit d' scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new is 1. In a hair straightening device of the character described, an elongated cu body, comb teeth formed at one longitu mal edge of the body, a heating coil arranged 7 within the body, a mandrel mounted longitudinally within the body for rotation, and means arranged at one end of the body whereby said mandrel may be rotated.

2. In a hair straightener of the character described, an elongated cup shaped body having walls of perpendicular configuration at the opposite ends thereof, comb teeth formed at one longitudinal edge of the body, a heating coil arranged Within the body, a mandrel, pintles at the opposite ends 0 the mandrcl, means associated with the said end walls-of the body whereby said pintles may be removably arranged therein, and means at one end of the ho y and operatively associated with the adjacent mandrel pintle for facilitating the rotation of said mandrel.

3. In a hair straightener of the character described, a relatively elongated cup shaped hollow body,'a handle arranged at one end of the body, comb teeth formed at one longitudinal edge of the body, an electric heating coil arranged Within the body, a mandrel mounted for longitudinal rotation within the body, spaced relatlon with the adjacent surface of v the body, and means whereby said mandrel may be rotated.
