STORE-SERVICE APPARATUS.
Application filed April 9,
My invention relates to improvements 111 store service apparatus.
. One of the objects of my invention 1s to provide a novel apparatus for the display and serving of merchandise, easily, quickly and with a minimum of labor.
it further object of my Invention is to provide a service apparatus of the k1nd described, which is simple, cheap, strong, durable, of ornamental appearance, which enables a larger amount of merchandise to be stored in small space, which enables customers to be quickly and satisfactorily served, which enables the display of a large variety of goods, and which 1s efficient in w EoperatiOH,
A further object of my invention is the provision of a novel serving car and supporting means therefor, with which a clerk can quickly assemble and transport .purchased goods from the shelves to the delivery counten The novel features of my invention are hereinafter fully described and'claiined.
In the accon'ipanying drawings, which illustrate the preferred embodiment of my invention,
Fig, 1 is a plan view of my improved apparatus.
Fig. 2 is Fig. l.
a section on the line 22 of a section on the line 33 of a section on the line 4-4 of 5 is a section on the line 5-5 of (S is an enlarged inside elevation of the car and a portion of the frame which supports the car.
Similar reference characters designate similar parts in the different views.
My apparatus provides, in the preferred form shown, two parallel tiers of shelves 1 and 2, which are spaced to form between the tiers a passage 3. Each tier may comprise a plurality of vertical rows of shelves, each shelf being pivoted on a vertical axis so as to swing into the passage 3 over the path of a suitable serving car 4: adapted for travel in the passage 3 parallel with the tiers.
For supporting the shelves 1 an upright frame A is provided having inner supporting posts 6 and outer posts 5, the posts 5 1927. Serial No. 182,257.
and 6 being mounted on the floor and connected at their upper ends by a horizontal plate 7.
The upper portion of each post 6 is preferably square in cross section and is adapted to have mounted on it, one above the other. supporting members 8 supported by and held clamped to the post and to clamping plates 10 by bolts 9. By loosening the bolts 9, the members 8 and plates 10 may be independently vertically adjusted on the post.
The shelves 1 are respectively supported by the members 8 upon which they rest, and they are pivoted thereto on a vertical axis by means of a vertical rod 11 which extends through the members 8 of each vertical row and on which the shelves 1 are adapted to swing from the position shown in solid lines in Fig. 5, to the position shown in dotted lines in said figure, and in the last named position being disposed over the path of travel of the serving car 4 For limiting the inward swinging of the shelves 1 of each row, there are provided vertical bars 13 on the frame A, one bar for each vertical row of shelves, and arranged to limit the movement inwardly of the shelves in that row to the position shown in solid lines in Fig. 5. For limiting the outward swinging of the shelves, the forward edge of each shelf 1 has a notch 12 adapted to receive the adjacent post 6.
For supporting the ear 4, the'frame A has fastened to-it a longitudnal bar comprising a horizontal angle bar 14, one flange of which extends laterally into the passage 3 and has mounted on it two carrying wheels 15, which are rotatable on horizontal axes, and are disposed at one side of the ear, next to the frame A.
The frame A at its inner side has a horizontal angle bar 16, which is above and parallel with the bar 14, and which has a downwardly extending flange the inner side of which is engaged by rollers 17 rotatable on the side of the ear/l. Two rollers 18 are rotatable on vertical axes on the lower end of the car 4. The rollers 18 are, preferably, grooved rollers and have disposed in them the lateral flange of the angle bar 14. A plate 19 fastened to the car 4 intermediate of the rollers 18 slidably engages the angle bar 1% at the side thereof opposite to that engaged by the rollers 18. The plate 19 ple-
