Application aieanme 1?, 1927. Serial no. 199,531. I
My invention relates to radiator caps and has for an object to .providea fastening means for the cap whereby to firmly secure the same in position and permitting the instant releasing of the same whenever the cap is desired to be opened. F
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character of simple construction, neat and attractive in appearance, adapted to positively secure the parts in locked position and which may be easily and quicklyinstalled on practically any type ofradiatorfillingo enings. a 1 7 Other objects an I advantages reside in the special construction, combination, and arrangement of the various'elements forming the invention as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawingaforming part hereof, wherein; a
Figure 1 is an elevational view with parts broken away to show the manner of mounting the cap, and
re 2 is a fragmentary perspective view sh'owlng the locking latch in disengaged position permitting the opening of the cap. Referring now to the drawing I have shown my invention comprising a lower cap section comprising a collar 5 having an externally threaded boss 6 depending therefrom and adapted to be threadedly inserted in the neck 7 of the radiator filler opening.
Extending from opposite sides of the collar is formed a pair of arms 8" arranged in a substantially horizontal position and having their outer ends provided with vertically extending slots 9 each pair of arms having a pin 10 arran ed therebetween transversely of the slot. be mounted upon t a lower section in superimposed relatlon and comprises a cap 11 for mounting over the opening in. the collar 5' and provided with similarly arranged arms 12 arranged above the arms 8 of the lower section. Vertically formed slots 13- are also arran ed in the arms- 12 having pins 14' exten lng transversely therethrough; and mounted upon said ins within said slots are latches 15, said late as being rotatably carried on the pins so as permit thefree' n u per sectionis adapted to made of onyx, glass, metal or other suitable omaterial, and retained thereon by a nut .19.
At the upper edgeof the collar 5 of the lower section is formed'an upwardly extendingflange 20 over which is adapted to ,be carried a downwardly extending flange 21 formed on the under side of the cap v11 of the upper section. The edge 'of' the flange 21 may rest upon a. rubber washer 22 arranged about the flange20 so as to forma tight seal between-the parts.
The ends of each pair of arms maybe provided with a latch connecting means as heretofore described so that the upper section of the cap may be removed by releasing either side thereof. It is to be understood, however, that if desired the arms at one side of the cap may be provided with a permanently formed pivotal connection so as to prevent the upper and lower sections from becoming Y entirely separated.
An ornamental device indicated at 23 may be mounted upon the upper portion'of. the cap 11 such as for instance, amotor meter or the like.
It is tobe not limited to the specific construction herein disclosed as various changes and modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit of the invention or thescope of the appended claim.
' I claim:
A radiator filler cap comprising a pair of cap sections detachably arranged in superimposed relation, meansccarried by the lower section whereby to secure the same to a radiunderstood that-my invention is ator filler, arms extending in spaced parallel relation at opposite sides from each of said sections, latches pivotally mounted to the arms of said upper section and havingslots formed therein, a pin carried by the arms of said lowersection and ada ted to be inserted 5 in said slot, whereby to reieasably secure the latches to the lower arms at each side of the cap and permitting selective disengagement LEWIS L. DUODSON.
