The object of my said invention is the provision of an efficient device through the medium of which reeds such as used in clarinets, saxophones, and other' analogous musical instruments mayv be expeditiously To the attainment lof the foregoing, the invention consists in the improvementV as hereinafter described and definitely claimed.

The reed to be clipped is designated by 1 and is shown in Figures 1 and 2.

Among other elements my novel device comprises a body, preferably of appropriate metal, and having `a bottom wall 2 and side walls 3. A coiled spring 18 is seated in the before mentioned countersink 10 of the arch 8 and is arranged about the stem 1G and is interposed between the bottom wall of the said counter sink 10 and the head 17 so as to operate tov retract the blade hol-der 11 subsequently to a depression thereof. v By virtue of the provision of the opening 6 in the bottom wall 2 of the body it will be manifest that it is feasible to form the..

stem 16 integral with or to permanently affix the said stem 16 tothe body 11, the body' 11 and the stem 16 being introduced upwardly through the 4opening 6 and the stem 1G being moved upwardly through the aperture 9, after which the spring 18 is applied and they head or knob 17 is connected to the vupper end of the stem 16. 'l have entered into adetailed description of the preferred embodiment of my invention in order to impart a lfull clear, and exact understanding oi' the said embodiment. I do not desire, however, to be understood as limiting myself to the construetion disclosed, myinvcntion being defined by my appended claimswithin the scope of which modilications may be madevvthout departure from my invention.

Having thus described the invention, what I c aim as new is f I 1. A device for clipping musical instrument reeds, comprising a body having a bottom wall and side Walls with undercuts `in their inner sides adjacent to the bot-tom wall and also havingy an arch on the side Walls and an a rture and a counter sink in said arch, anV further having guide ways in the side walls, a supporting block disposed on the bottom Wall and in the said under cuts of the side wal-ls, a blade holder movable in said guide ways, an arcuate blade carried by said holder, a stem fixed to said holder and extending throu h said aperture in the arch and provide at its upper end with a head, and a spring surrounding the, stem and seated in said countersink and interposed between the bottoni of the countersink and the head.

A device for clipping musical instrument reeds, comprising a body having a bottom 'wall and side Walls withundercuts in their inner sides adjacent to the bottom Wall and also having an arch on said side walls andan aperture and a counter sink in said arclnand further having guide wat in the side walls, a sup orting block disposed on the bottom wal and in the'said under cuts yoi' the side Walls, a blade holder movable in 4said guide ways, an arcuate blad-e carried by said holder, a stem fixed to said holder and extending through said aperture in the arch and rovided at its upper end with a head, an a spring surrounding the stem and seated in said Vcountersink and interposed between the bottom of the counter-sink and the head; the said bottom wall of the body being provided with an opening below t'heblade holder and blade, and the said guide Ways in the' side walls of the body being extended through `the bottom wall of the body and arranged in communication withl the said opening.
