IMPROVEMENT IN WASHING-MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 167,483., dated September 7, 1875 application -led June 24, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID WARNocK, of Percival, in the county of Fremont and State of Iowa, have invented certain Improvements in GlothesWashing Machines, of which the following is a specifica-tion:
My invention consists in a peculiar combination and arrangement in a body of two horizontal reciprocating roller-frames, connected and supported by rocking cross-boards, and operated by means of an upright hand-lever mounted in the top of the body.
Figure l represents a vertical longitudinal section ot' my machine, with the parts in their operative positions; Fig. 2, a similar section with the parts in position to allow the introduction and removal of the clothes.
A represents a tight rectangular body or Abox supported on legs, and provided with a hinged lid or cover, a, in the center of which there is pivoted an upright hand-lever, B, extending through into the body, as shown in Fig. 1. G C represent two transverse upright boards arranged in the ends of the body, and provided with journals bearing in the lower ends of vertical grooves c, which are formed in the inner sides of the body, as shown in both figures. D and E represent two horizontal frames containingl transverse rollers, and having their ends mounted in slots in the rocking boards C, as shown, the frame I) being mounted'in the lower ends and the frame E in the upper ends of the boards, as shown in Fig. l. Each frame consists merely of two side bars, having their ends shaped to enter the slots in the rocking boards C, which hold the bars together and prevent the rollers from escaping. The upper frame E is also provided at its middle with a cross-bar, provided with a hole, e, to receive the lower end of the hand-lever, as represented in Fig. l.
1n operating` the machine the lid or cover is turned back, and one end oi' the frame E turned up, as shown in Fig. 2. The clothes are then placed upon the frame D, the frame E turned down in place, the top closed, and the hand-lever vibrated, thereby causing a reciprocation of the two roller-frames in opposite directions.
When it is desired to cleanse the interior of the machine, or to employ the body in place of a rinsing-tub, the rocking boards, with the roller-traine, may be lifted out of theV body.
What I claim as my invention isl. In combination with the body A the two slotted rocking-boards C, the roller-frames D and E, having their ends mounted in the boards, and the hand-lever B, arranged substantially as shown.
2. The washing-machine, consisting of the body A, provided with the vertical grooves c, the boards U, provided with journals and slots, the roller-frames D and E, and the handlever B mounted in the top ot' the body, all arranged to operate as shown.
DAVID WARNOGK.
