Description
V. l. BEEGE.
Die-Stocks.
N0.167,472. I 'Patented Sept. 7,1875.
VIRGINIUS J. REEOE, OF GREENFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN DIE-STOCKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 167,472, dated September '7, 1875; application filed July 3, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VI-ReINIUs J. REEoE, of Greenfield, in the county of Franklin and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and improved Die-Stock, of which the following is a specification In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a top view; Fig. 2, a vertical central section on line 0 c; and, Fig. 3, a bottom View of my improved stock.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of my invention is to furnish an improved die-stock that allows the cutting of true threads and the ready adjustment of the die-stock to different sizes of the bolts,so that same may be cut in even and more accurate manner.
The invention will first be described in connection with drawing, and then pointed out in the claim.
In the drawing, A represents the die-stock, into which the difi'erent screw-cutting dies are set in the usual manner.
In place of the bushing at present in use I use adjustable guides or bushings B, that are made in the shape of curved elbow-levers, pivoted at one end to the die-stock and acted upon by a sliding plate, 0, having eccentrically-curved slots a, which engage lugs or pins 11 of the guides at the angles or corners of the same. The free ends of the guides B are thrown, by the turning of plate 0, in one direction toward the center of the die-stock, being in any position at equal distance therefrom, so that they may be set to any size of bolt, and be firmly secured in position by a clamp-screw, cl, that binds plate 0 to the diestock. The guides secure the bolt, to be threaded, to the center of the die, and produce the accurate cutting of the bolt. On detaching the die-stock the sliding plate is unclamped and thrown into opposite direction, releasing thereby the pivoted guides, and carrying them back into the annular recess of the die-stock ready to be instantly applied to the next bolt. The sliding plate 0 turns by a circumferential collar or flange on a cylindrical collar of the stock, being nicely fitted thereto and guided by pins in an annular groove of the same to produce the exact movements of the guides. As the guides are placed near the die, short bolts can also be readily cut, and a true and perfect thread be given to the bolts.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The improved die-stock A, provided with adjustable end-pivoted guides B B B, having lug b, and the slide plate G, having slots a, curved eccentrically, as shown and described.
VIRGINIUS JOSEPH REEOE.
