UNITED STATES it 1,674,002 PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS WILLIAM BACHE, OF WEST BROMWICH, ENGLAND.
SHOW CASE.
Application filed October 2, 1926, Serial No. 139,193, and in Great Britain December 15, 1925.
This invention relates to improvements in show cases particularly for use with weighing machines of the platform or pedestal type wherein the load to be weighed is placed upon a platform mounted upon a base memher having a vertically-disposed pillar or supportwhich carries at its upper end the weight indicating mechanism, the latter being connected to the said platform by means of a rod or member passing up through the pillar or support.
The object of the invention is to provide an improved construction of show-case which is particularly suitable for use in combination with a weighing-machine of the above type.
Referring to the accompanying draw- 1ngs:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a combined weighing-machine and show-case constructed in accordance with this invention.
Figure 52 is a horizontal transverse section through the show-case of the machine upon the line 22, Figure 1, the door being shown ajar.
Figure 3 is a vertical section through the show-case upon the line 3 3, Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a front elevation to an enlarged scale of one of the show-case door catches, part of the show-case framing being broken away.
Figure 5 is a section upon the line 5-5, Figure 4.
Figure 6 is a horizontal section also to an enlarged scale through one of the show-case door hinges.
In carrying out the invention, the vertically-disposed pillar or support comprises a vertical elongated compartment 1 forming a show-case of a rectangular cross-section through the centre of which passes the rod 2 connecting the machine platform 3 with the weight-indicating mechanism.
The frame of the show-case has a pair of vertical angle-section corner members 4 and also apair of vertical double angle-section corner members 5 all carried by the base upon which the platform 3 is mounted, the members 5 form a recess 6 in which the door door of the case preferably consists of a glass or other transparent panel mounted in an angle'sectioned frame 10, the depth of the recess 6 and the thickness of the door 7 7 is housed when shut and also grooves 8 being equal, so that the front face of the door lies flush with the front faces 1.1 of the members 5. The sides 9 of the case are preferably of glass or other transparentmaterial, while the back of the case is constituted by a mirror 12 backed by a metal or other suitner-member, the glass panel 9 being notched The or recessed to accommodate the same.
, other hinge-member is screwed to the door frame-member 10 as shown at Figure 6. Instead of a single door being employed a pair of doors may be used hinged at their outer edges and locked together at their inner adjacent edges when closed, while instead of I the door or doors forming the front side of the case, as illustrated, theyv may be disposed at either side or at the back in which case the corner members of the case frame would be arranged accordingly. One or more pairs of rods or brackets 19 held in position by screws 20 are provided for supporting one or more shelves 21 within the case. The shelves are preferably made of glass and are split into two halves upon their longitudinal centre, i. e. from side to side of the case to facilitate their removal from around the rod 2 which is accommodated in opposed recesses or notches 22 disposed centrally in the meeting edges of the two halves of the shelf.
As shown in the drawings, the bottom of the show-case is considerably elevated above the platform 3, and below the said show-case metal panels are secured to the front and sides of the pillar frame. The glass panels of the show-case are thus protected from damage when a person stands upon the platform or when goods are placed thereon.
Having fully described my invention, what I desire to claim and secure by Letters Patent is A show-case comprising a base, a vertical frame consisting of four corner uprights carried by the base the two front uprights each being of an integral double angle-section forming a rearwardly-open channel and a set-back flange at right-angles to the inner flange of the channel and integral therewith, a pair of glass walls respectively engaged in the channels of the two said uprights to form oppositesides of the show-case, a wall secured to the rear uprights to form the back of the show-ease, a hinged door forming the front ot' the show-case and engaging, when closed, the setback flanges of the channelled uprights so as to lie flush with the outer fares of said uprights, hinges on one edge of the door. the inner side flange of the channel of one of the front uprights having gaps and shelves supported upon the said hrack- 20 eta for displaying goods thereon.
In lestiniom whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
