MOLDING-SAND convnxnn.
Application med January 3, 1925. Serial No. 409.
My invention relates to the preparation of molding sand for reuse after it has been used in a molding operation, the sand being shaken from the flask to be subjected to a loosening up operation and mixing with water for reuse. The object of my invention is to enable the loosening up operation to be performed rapidly and efiiciently and without possibility of injury to the workmen and loss of sand.
My invention consists in whatever is described by or is included within the terms or scope of the appended claims.
In the drawings the figure is a perspective view of an apparatus embodying my invention. 1
The sand emptied or shaken from the flask falls upon a grating 10, composed of parallel tubular rods, supported at opposite ends in cross bars, 11, above a trough, 12, extending through a pit below the grating in which reciprocates below the grating a carriage, 13, from which push plates, 14, are suspended which by the forward move ment of the carriage push the sand forward and by the back movement of the carriage rock upward and pass over and fall behind the piles of sand which they push forward. The carriage comprises side bars, 15, and wheels, 16, which rest upon the tops of the side walls of the trough. The carriage and the means for reciprocating the same form no part of the present invention and being of well known construction need not be further described.
Attached to the side bars, 13, of the car-,
tween the grating bars and loosen up the sand with which they come into contact.
Extending upwardly from each of the four sides of the grating at an incline outward are side plates, 20, that constitute a hopper above the grating for directing the sand into the grating and preventing it being thrown off the grating when it is agitated by the comb devices or agitator and form a guard against injury to workmen who might otherwise come in contact with the agitator. The side walls, 20, extend from the sides of the pit.
WVhat I claim is:
1. The combination of a sand conveyor, comprising a trough, a reciprocating carriage mounted to move longitudinally of the trough, a grating above such carriage, a comb having teeth that extend into the grating spaces, and arms extending from the carriage sides upwards on which the comb is mounted.
2. The combination of a sand conveyer comprising a trough, a reciprocating carriage mounted to move longitudinally of the trough, a grating above such carriage, parallel horizontal bars having teeth that extend into the grating spaces, and inverted U-shape bars that extend from the carriage sides to which said horizontal bars are at- RALPH E. MOGAUGHEY.
