. O. BECKER HOLDER FOR FLAT FILMS WITH CLAMPING DEVICES FOR THE EDGES OF THE FILMS Filed April 29, 1927 5 film is gripped by 0 in connection with these clamping devices 2 Patented June 12, 192 1 TRIE AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT,
HOLDER FOR FLAT FILMS WITH CLAMPIN G DEVICES FOR GERMANY, ASSIGNOR TO I. S. FARBENINDUS- 'OF FRANKFORTON-THE-MAIN, GERMANY.
THE EDGES OF THE FILMS.
Application filed April 29, 1927, Serial No. 187,609, and in Germany May 5, 1926.
The present invention relates to a holder for vfilms during development and other treatment of the films whilst in an upright (that is a vertical). position in which the a clamping device that is entirely reliable in its action.
The chief feature of the present invention 's that in spite of the fact that the edges of the film are immovably gripped the film is easily inserted in the holder with or Without a special insertion device owing to the fact that the clamping devices are formed with funnel-shaped entrance slots for the film. This enables the fiat film, which is highly sensitive and coated on both sides by emulsion, to be inserted accurately wlthout danger of damage. The various clamping devices have rims formed by the upwardly bent edges of a plate member and rims and besides them an arm movable in aplane parallel to them. which arm, if it is downwardly displaced, bends the edge of the film acutely about one edge and thus grips it firmly.
One form of construction of the invention is shown in the annexed drawings In which v p Fig. 1 is a front view of a film holder.
ig. 2 is a side view, and v I Fig. 3 is a rear view of a clamping device on a larger scale.
ig. 4 is a cross-section of the closed clamping device, that is with the movable arm in its lowered position, and
Fig. 5 is a cross-section of the clamping device open, that is with the movable arm raised.
As shown in Fig. 1, 1 is a rectangular frame which is preferably of bent wire, and of which the upper cross-member enables the frame to be handled, for example, for
the side members of this frame are secured film to be gripped.
Such a clamping device consists see Figs. 2-5) of a plate member3 bent out of a strip of metal of U-section, so that the shank portion 4 carries the edge members 5, between which is an entrance slot 6 for the claim 1, immersing it or hanging it in a bath. To h for the edges of the l film. The front edges of these bent portions 5 are cut obliquely so that the insertion slot 6 broadens out in an upward direction, and consequently it is easily possible to insert the hlm in the clamping device from above. 55
Inserted in this way, neighbourhood of its narrow edge 7 of one of the bent portions 5 of the clamping device 2. In proximity to the bent portion 5 the spring arm 8 is secured to the plate member 3 in such manner that its under surface is not normally in the position shown in Fig. 3 behind or in front of the member 5, but, lying inside the shank of the plate member of U-shaped cross-section, leaves the funnel-shaped insertion slot open. In an opening in the member 1, an eccentric 9 is movably mounted on the pin 10, and is provided with a handle This eccentric rests on the upper surface of the arm 8. If the eccentric is rotated owing to movement of the handle 11 so that the eccentric bears against the shank 4 of the member 3, the eccentric bears upon the arm 8. which is pressed to pass the edge 7 (see Fig. 4) and bends the edge of the film located at the narrow'edge the film lies in the movable clamping of the edge of the film in the clamping device is thus attained.
aving now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed. I declare that what I claim is:
1. A holder for flat films provided with a clamping device for the edges of the films characterized by the fact that the clamping devices are provided with funnel-shaped slots for the edges of the films.
2. A holder for flat-films according to characterized by the fact that the older comprises an edge upon which the film lies and over which it is bent about its L movable laterally of the strip on the downward movement of a lever provided with an eccentric.
3. A holder for flat films according to 7 claim 1 characterized by the fact that the clamping device consists of amember formed metal plate, of which the arms by bending a side edges upon the g of the bent portion 5 about this narrow ed e, and 1mare once so bent at their front portions that spring is arranged as a swinging arm for a slot is formed between the latter for the pressing down the inserted film, which insertion of the film, which bears upon the spring can be pressed down by means of an 10 narrow edge of the bent central portion. eccentric movably positioned in one of the 5 4. A holder. for flat films according to arms of the frame.
claim 1 characterized by the fact that in the In testimony whereof I aflix my signature; plate member formed by bending, a leaf I OSCAR BECKER.
