MATCH-BOX HOLDER. f
Application hammer s, 1926. Serial ri /153,392.
My invention relates to a holder and readily fixed in either the horizontal or vertical position, which is simple in its con struction and arrangement, strong, durable and eflicient in its use, and comparatively in expensive to manufacture. I
With the foregoing and other objects in View which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawing wherein like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views Figure 1 is a side view of my improved holder attached in the horizontal position and supporting a match-box, the latter being partial y in cross section. 1 v Figure 2 is a top plan view of the matchbox holder. V
Figure 3 is a rear end view thereof.
Referring in detail to the drawing, my improved-holder comprises an integral body portion 1 formed to provide a flat, rectangularly shaped, horizontally disposed base 2, a rear wall 3, disposed at right angles to the base 2 and extending vertically upward from the rear end of the latter, and an angularly disposed clampin rear end connected Wlfil the rear wall 2 and extending forwardly to approximately the center or the length of the base 2. The width of the clamping plate 4 is less than the width of the rear wall 3 and of the base 2, for the purpose to be described, and as clearly shown in Figure 2.
plate 4 havingits.
the upper end of or rolled upwardly, as indicated at 5,:md normally contacts with and exerts a resilient pressure upon the top face of the base 2.
The body portionl is primarily intended to extend in the horizontal position, as shown in Figure 1.. The rear wall 3 is formed With a pair of apertures 6 which are disposed adjacent to respective ends thereof. The apertures 6 areprovided for the passage of the screws 7 for securing the body portion 1 to a vertically disposed supporting structure -'8. Each marginal side edge of the clamping plate 4 is formed with a substantially semi-circular recess 9 which is aligned with respective rear wall apertures 6 and providing clearance adapted to permit of the proper alignment of a screw driver when inserting or removing the screws 7 through the rear wall 3. An aperture 10 is also formed in the base 2 andis adapted for the passage of a screw when securing the body portion 1am horizontally disposed supporting structure.
The body portion 1. is primarily intended for holding a pocket match-box 11, of the ordinary commercial size in approximately the one-half way open position, as clearly shown in Figure 1. The match-box 11 consists of the match receptacle 12 slidably mounted in the usual sleeve cover 13.
In positioning the match-box 11 to my improved holder, the former is positioned on the base 1 with the rear end of the receptacle 12 placed against the forward rolled end5 of the clamping plate 4 and the sleeve cover 13 is then pushed rearwardly until it abuts against the rear end wall 3. This operation will cause the. clampin plate to" force the receptacle 12 to the partlally open position as shown in Figure 1. The base 2 is disposed on the under side of the Wall 14 of the sleeve cover 13 and the clamping plate4 projects into the sleeve cover 13. The forward end 5 of the clamping plate 4 tensionally engages the top face of the sleeve cover wall 14 and secures the matchbox 11 in position on the body portion '1. The widths of the base land of the rear wall 3 are preferably commensurate to the width of the sleeve cover 13, while the clamping plate 4 is of a width commensurate tothe interior width of the sleeve cover 13 to permit of its extension into the latter. The curled forward end 5, of the clamping plate 4, facilitates the engagement and insertion of the sleeve cover wall width of said clampingplflebe' less than the width of said base and ofsai end wall, said end wall bein provided with apair,of apertnrus dipose adjacent to respective ends thereof, each marginal side edge of said clamping plate being formed with a recess respectively ali ed with said pair of apertures, substantial y as described and for the purpose set forth. 7 Y
