Description

Patented June 12, 1928.
UNITED STATES CARL GROSS, OF ALLIANCE, OHIO.
TILE.
Application lied January 18, 1927. Serial 1T0, 181,816.
The present invention relates to a fire-clay tile or the like particularly designed for use in a floor construction of the combined tile and reinforcing concrete type such as is dis- 5 closed in detall in an application filed of even date.
The object of the present invention lies 1n the provision of a tile of this nature which is strong and durable, inexpensive to manus facture, easy to mount in place between supporting structures without the necessity of shorings or the like.
With the above and other im ortant objects in view, as will appear as t e description proceeds, the invention resides in certain details of construction as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing Figure l is a perspective view of the tile embodying the features of my invention,
Fig. 2 is a detail fragmentary view showing the manner in which tiles of this nature are supported on a truss structure.
Referring to the drawing in detail, it
will be seen that the tile includes a body of hollow reinforced formation to provide a top horizontal wall 5, a bottom horizontal wall 6', downwardly and outwardly slanting side walls 7 between the top and bottom walls 5 and 6 respectively. A partition rib 8 is formed to extend between the walls 5 and 6 at the approximate centers thereof while diagonal partition braces 9 extend fromthe center of the wall 5 to the ends of-the wall 6. The partition rib 8 and the diagonal partition braces 9 provide the reinforcement for the body. The .wall6 is provided with a lateral extension 10. The lower corners of the block are provided with notches 11 and 12, to form shoulders which are adapted to rest on bottom lates 13 of trusses T, the tongue 10 of one b ock extending over into abutment with the vertical shoulder formed by the notch 11 of the next adjacent tile. The outer surfaces of the walls 5, 6 and 7 are groovedto form ridges denoted by the letters It so thata lockmg engagement may be had with concrete formed thereon as illustrated to advantage in Fig. 2. l
It is thought that the construction, utility, and advantages of the invention will now be clearly understood without a more detailed description thereof. The present embodiment of the tile has proved efiicient and reliable in actual operation but nevertheless it is appreciated that minor changes in the details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is A tile of the class described including a polygonal block body having notches at its lower corners to form shoulders adapted to rest on thrust supporting structures, a laterally extending tongue formed at one corner below the shoulder of the notch thereof, said block body being of hollow reinforced construction and com rising top and bottom spaced horizontal wa ls and side walls which incline outwardly and downwardly, the faces of the shoulders being horizontal and the upper face of the tongue 'being inclined downwardly and outwar In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
