This invention comprises certain new and useful improvements in washer holding and placing devices and has particular relation to a new and improved implement adapted for use in placing heel washers in molds for rubber heels.
Broadly stated, it is an object of the invention to provide an extremely simple, inexpensive tool which will hold a plurality ofl washers so that the same may be conveniently removed therefrom and positioned on a mold pin, one at a time. y
A particular object is to provide a tool having a magazine adapted to carry a supply of washers, coaxially arranged in superposed relation and to thereby provide a tool of convenient length and weight which will hold a large number of washers and which in use will require less frequent replenishment.
A further object lies in the provision of a tool of the character above indicated which will be provided with new and improved means for regulating the width of the escapement opening so that either flat or concave washers yor washers of any desired thickness may be used thereon.
A still further object is to provide a washer holding and placing device having a magazine and to provide new and improved means for maintaining the washers in the magazine with their apertures in coaxial alinement, thereby providing a tool in which washers of diiferent diameters may be used.
An additional object. is to provide an implement of the class described having conveniently regulatable means whereby only the lower washer in the magazine may be registered on a mold pin.
The above objects are accomplished and additional ends are attained by the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing wherein I have shown a preferred embodiment of the invention, it being understood that the invention is capable of various adaptations and that changes and modifications may be made and substitutions resorted to which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.

Figure 6 is a sectional view illustrating a modification of the invention and showing dished washers as the same are used in my improved device. y
Proceeding now to a detailed description of the invention with particular reference to the embodiment thereof illustrated in the accompanying drawing, the numeral 6 is used to denote a tube which forms the body of my improved device. The tube 6 has a cylindrical cavity 7, the diameter of which is greater than the diameter of the washers to be used therein. Approximately onehalf of the tube 6 is cut away in close, spaced relation to the lower end thereof to provide an offset which forms an opening 8 for the escapement of washers as hereinafter described. The tube 6 is exteriorly threaded at the lower end thereof with the screw threadsy 9. The numeral 10 denotes an interiorly threaded base cap which is operatively secured on the screw threads 9 on the lower end of the tube 6. The cap 10 is provided with an end wall 11 and an opening l2 is formed therein so as to extend into the end wall 11 over one edge thereof and terminate in an opening surrounding the center thereof. The walls of the opening 12 converge outwardly so that said opening is rela tively wider at the edge of the bottom 11 and the inner end ofsaid openin is designed so that it. may bepositione over a mold pin and permit a washer, coaxially positioned thereon, to be transferred to a mold pin. An exit slot 13 is formed in said cap at a right angle to the axis thereof so as to be positioned centrally of the opening 12 and ,so as to coincide with the opening 8 at the lower end of the tube 6. The slot 13 in the cap 10 is made to register with the offset 8 by operating the cap on the said tube, thus forming an exit which will be hereinafter referred to by 'the numeral 13a.
I prefer to construct my improved device with the opening 13 in the cap 10 relatively wider than the opening 8 at the lower end of the tube 6 so that the width of the opening may be varied to accommodate washers of different thicknesses b regulating the position of the cap 10 on t e body 6. j
The upper end of the tube 6 is provided with the external screw threads 14 and the internally threaded, cylindrical cap 15 is operatively screwed thereon. The cap 15 is provided with the outwardly projecting boss 15a which projects coaxially from the cap 15 and the numeral 16 denotes a threaded bore which extends coaxially through the cap 15 and the boss15a. The numeral `17 denotes a rod or wire which is threaded at yco To llmy improved device with washers, the cap 15 1s removed from the body 6 and a plurality of washers are positioned on the W1re 17. The wire is then held in an inverted position and the cap 15 is threaded on the tube 6. When the tube is placed in an upright position the washers will be moved downwardly by the force of ravity and the lowermost washer will be posltioned on the bottom 11 of the cap 10. Y The rod 17 is then operated in the threaded bore 16 to position the lower end thereof at a point just above .the lowermost washer. The ca 10 may then be operated on the tube 6 to a just the opening 13a so that only the lowermost washer may be removed therefrom.
In operation the device is held in a vertical position and is placed over the mold pin 19 of a heel mold 20 as shown in Figure 4 so that the lowermost washer will be positioned on the reduced portion 19b and seated on the shoulder 19a of the mold pin 19. The
device while being retained in an' upright position is then moved laterally causing the washer 20, which has been positioned upon the pin 19a as above set forth, to be drawn through the exit 13a.
In ordinary use, the pin 17 is adjusted so that the bottom end thereof will contact with the end of the pin 19 and prevent more than one washer from being engaged by said pin at one time.
While I prefer to use my device with the wire 17 positioned therein as above set forth, it is obvious that it may be used without said wire, in which case the tube 6 is filled .with washers and the opening 13 adjusted so that only one washerA can be removed therefrom at one time. j
From the foregoing, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it will be seen that I have provided a new and -improved implement which will contain a as new and desire to secure by Letters-v 1.In a device for placing washers on the pins in rubber heel molds, in combination, a tube adapted to hold a coaxially arranged stack of washers therein, means associated with the bottom of said tube to support said washers, an exist opening at the lower end of said tube, said supporting means rovided with a channel adapted to permit a mold pin to be entered in theA aperture of the lowermost washer, means to limit the entrance of the mold pin to the lowermost washer, said channel communicating with said exit slot at a point centrally thereof.
2. In a device for placing washers on the pins in rubber heel molds, in combination, a tube. arran ed to support a coaxially arranged stac of washers, washer supporting means at the bottomA of said tube, said tube and supporting means arranged to provide an exit opening therebetween, said supporting means provided with a slot which extends therein from a point centrally of said exit opening ywith the inner end of said slot substantially coinciding with the aperture of the lowermost Washers when washers.
are positioned in said tube, said slot being relatlvely narrow and serving as a guideway whereby either the tube or the pin may be `moved to draw the lowermost washer through said exit opening.
3. In a device for placing washers on the pins of rubber heel molds, a wire adapted to be received in theaperture of said washers,
means to retain a coaxially arranged stack of washers on said wire, said means arranged to support said stack of Washers on said wire with the lowermost 'washer in a, plane below the end thereof, said means arranved to permit said lowermost washer to be 1mpaled by a mold pin, and be drawn `from said stack and positionedon said pin.
