or nnaumon'r; Texas? HYDBOCARBON BURNER.
. v.Lpplication filed December 9, 1926,..Seria1 110,158,557;
This inventionirelates to new and, useful "improvements in a hydrocarbon burner. Y
Y One object of the invention is to provide a burner of the character described. specially designed to utilize a liquid,-such as oil, as a fuel and of such construction" that it will completely vaporize thcfuel so that the same will be completelyconsumed. V c
Another objectofthe-inventionistoprovide ahydrocarbon burnerfof the character an outwardly flared rotatable .atomizing cup-like nozzle combination with a spray head within the nozzle V nipp l3, .bodyjl and into .in ,fixed relation thereto, said headhaving discharge outlets i with means for supplying fuel, under pressure, to said head" and with ,means for rotating the nozzle. 1 I V I A further objectofthe invention resides .incthe provision of a novel type of discharge nozzle, said nozzle. being substantially cuplike in form and outwardly flared lat different tapers, eachtaper from the inner end to the outer end, of the nozzle itch;than theone preceding it, I i V, With the above and other ob'ects inview this invention has particular relation to certain novel features of. construction, operation and arrangement of parts,1a n '-;exa1nple of which is givenin th's specification and illus- ,tratedin the I accompanying j drawings, Wherein r. Figure 1 shows a. longitudinal sectional view of the burner. I I
Figure 2 shows j a ,side elevation of the spray head, partly in section and .Figure1eshowsate-asse s sectional View of said head taken on the line 33 of Figure 2.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, wherein like numerals of reference designate similar parts in each of the figures, the numeral 1 designates the burner body, which is substantially cylindrical in form and which has an air inlet 2 controlled by the inlet valve 3, which is operable through the valve lever 4, fixed to the stem 5 of the valve. The numeral 6 gated cylindrical air nozzle which is threaded into one end of the body 1 and which may be formed of sections, if desired, as shown. The burner is supported by a suitable annular bracket 7, through which the air nozzle 6 extends and to which it is secured by means of a conventional clamp nut 8. The bracket 7 is provided for conveniently mounting the burner. Fixed to and lar line shaftlast mentioned designates an elon- .upstanding .from tl1e burner body there is the tubular connection 9 and-anoil line 10 leading from a suitable source of supply has its adjacent end fitted Within the con-. nection 9 and secured therein by a through which C I suitable stufling'box arrangement 11 the line 10 extends and with which said line has a swivelling connection. Thereis a: U-
.sh ped bra k t' 1 one e of," which is formed with a suitable tubular nipple 13, -which 'isffitted into the other end of I the bur e be y l 'll a ubu ar be ng eer l v h s ts di en nd threed d to. the said sleeve extending through the the air nozzle 6. Connected nected to said reducing nipple 15 and is also connectedvinto'the' connection 9 and. is
ashut-ofivalvell. Atubuequipped with 7 a a 18 is provided. This shaft bracket12 andnipple13and extends axially through I the bearing sleeve 14, being eqiipped with anti-fr ction bearings 19, 20 an arms ofithe bracket{12, thereis pulley 22 21 and fixed on said shaft, between the said: shaft "may be drivenv in through said shaft there isthe oil feed line suitable 5 manner- Extending axially '23, one end of which threadedinto the channel 16, of the reducing nipple 1 5 and the end of w hich extends beyond the arres s ndrfizthei 1' endf o f. said shaft; 18 there J i a I Fixed onthe cup-like atoniizing 1162218 24 a cylindrical which is equipped with an anti-friction hear,-
ing 25 around the adjacent end of the oil feed line 23. This nozzle flares outwardly at different tapers, or flares, as shown in Figure 1, each taper from the inner to the outer end thereof, having a greater pitch or flare than the preceding taper.
Fixed to the oil feed line 23 and spaced from the nozzle 24 there is a spray head 26.
e epthe ot r n f the, ra t 2 her i This head has the internal chamber 27 and I the head is preferably formed of two sections, suitably bolted together, as indicated in Figures 2 and 3. Leading out from the chamber 27 and substantially tangential thereto are the discharge outlets 28.
The fuel is forced throughthe line 23 into chamber 27 and out through the channels 28 against the inner wall of the nozzle 24 and the nozzle is rotated at a high rate of speed. Upon -leaving the spray head the oil will'distributeitself automatically around the nozzle walls and will gradually move toward the discharge-end-of the nozzle and will be ejected therefrom in a. fog-like vapor so that it will be thoroughly atomized.
hat I claim is:
1. A hydrocarbon b'urneiincluding a burner body substantially cylindrical in form and provided with an-air inlet, an elongated cylindrical air nozzle carried by said body, a bracket formed with a nipple which is tted into the other end of the burner body, a tubular sleeve anchored to said nipple and disposed Within said body,
at-ubular shaftextending axially through said nipple and through said sleeve, anti-friction hearings in the nipple and in "the free end of the sleeve in which said shaft runs, an oil line extending axially through said shaft, an atomizingnozzle within said air nozzle and fixed to the adjacent end of said shaft and having a bearing on said oil line, a head fixed to said oil line within and spaced from said atomizing n'ozzleand formed with an internal chamber having discharge outletsleading therefrom: 7
2. A hydrocarbon burner including a burner body, provided with an air inlet, an elongated tubular air nozzle carried by one end of said body, a bracket having a nipple which is fitted into the other end of the burner body, a tubular sleeve anchored 'to said nipple and disposed within said body, a tubular shaft extending axially through said nipple and through said sleeve, hearings in the "nipple and in the free end of the'sleeve in which said shaft runs, an oil line extend ing axially through said shaft, an atomizving nozzle within said air nozzle and fixed to the adjacent end of said shaft-and having a bearing on said oil line, ah'ead fixed to said oil line withinandspaced from said'atom'izing nozzle and formed with an internal leading therefrom,
chamber having discharge outlets leading therefrom.
3. A hydrocarbon burner including a burner bod-y, provided with an air inlet, an
elongated tubular air nozzle carried by one -=end ofpsaid body, a bracket having a nipple which is fitted into the other end'of the burner body, ia tubular sleeve anchored to in the nipple and in the free end :of *the sleeve in which said shaft '1'u11s,-an*oi:l line cxtending'axially through said shaft, :an atomizing nozzle within said air inozzle and fixed to the adjacent end of said shaft and having a bearingonsaid oil *line, a head fixed to said oil line within andsp'aced fromsaid atoniizing nozzle and formed 'with:an internal chamber having discharge outlets leading therefrom, and means for rotating said shaft.
4. A hydrocarbon burner including. burner body, provided with an air inlet, an elongated tubular air nozzle carried by one end of said body, a bracket formed with :a nipple which is fitted into the other end of the burner body, a tubular sleeve anchored to said nipple and disposed within said body,
