PIE-MAKING MACHINE.
Application filed September This invention relates to pie making machines and in particular to means for ejecting the completely formed pie from the machine.
The main objects are to provide ejecting means which is adapted to function without any interruption in the operation of the machine; which is adapted to coact with moving pie holders and act in synchronism with the same; which is reliable in its action; and to provide means in the ejector for avoiding accidental damage to the machine.
An embodiment of this invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a plan view showing the ejector mechanism mounted at the end of the pie forming machine.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary section taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged, fragmentary section on line 33 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is an end elevation of the slide shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is a plan view of the end of the slide with parts in changed position.
For convenience the term pie, as used herein, includes the pie tin in which the pie is made since the pie and tin'are handled as a unit.
In general, means are provided to lift the pie vertically from the pie holder, and then the ejector fender which is mounted on a slide sweeps the pie to one side where it is usually received on the conveyor of some other machine.
As shown in the drawings, the pies 1 are set in holders 2 which are doweled in position on the plates 3. The plates 8 are carried on each alternate knuckle pin 4 in the vertically jointed chain 5. At the same joints the chain 5 is provided with laterally disposed rollers 6, which, in the side portions of the machine, ride on the support rails 7. But at the end of the pie machine the rails 7 are terminated and the chain is supported by the forks 8 on the horizontal sprocket wheel carrier 9.
The wheel 9 is mounted in an extension 10 of the main frame 11 of the pie machine and is constantly driven, and hence moves the chain 5 continuously, by means of the worm 12 which meshes with the worm gear 13 on the lower end of the sprocket wheel shaft 14. 14 of the pie-tins 1 with a space under the bottom of the tin, in which the ejector or lifting plate 15 normally lies on the upper surface of disc 3 with the rod 16 which is attached to the plate 15 extending loosely through the knuckle pin structure 4 and protruding at the lower end thereof.
At the end of the machineshown, the plates 15 are raised to lift the pies 1 out of the holders 2, by means of the circular cam track rail 17 which bears up on the lower protruding end of the rod 16. The track 17 is semi-circular and lies directly under the pitch circle of the end turn of the carrier chain 5 and has downwardly sloping bevel portions at the ends and is connected by the brackets 18 to the outer rails 7 for support. The beveled end portions of 17 are provided for gradually raising and lowering the plate For moving the pie off the raised plate 15 a member 19 carried by a slide 20 is moved across the path of travel and is timed to contact with the edge of a pie, which at groove 23 in the guide bar 24 and is marginally supported therein by the guide plates 25 secured to the bar 24. The guide bar 24 is supported above the center of the wheel 9 by the horizontal plates 26 and 27 which are bolted to the arms 28 of the frame extension 10.
The slide 20 is reciprocated by means of the oscillating bar 28 which has a slot 29 in which is engaged the roller 30 mounted on the under side of the slide 20. The opposite end of the bar 28 is pivoted to the extension 81 of the plate 27 through the hinged link 32. The bar 28 is driven by the crank pin 33 in the crank arm 34 which is rotatably mounted in the frame member 10 with a pin ion 35 driven by a gear 36 on the sprocket wheel shaft 14.
As shown the slide 20 is positioned to move across the line of travel of the pie holder at a point where the pie is raised from the holder, and the timing relation is such that the slide coacts with each holder as the holder passes its station.
