Description

C. WOOD DIS-PLAYA DEv'IcE mvENToR limp/375]] N000' ATTORNEY Patented May 22, 1928.
UNITED srxrlas CAMPBELL wooD, vor DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
DISPLAY DEVICE.
Application led November 24, 1924. Serial No. 751,789.
My improved device relates to that type of display rack wherein three adjustable arms are adapted to support articles to be displayed upon a board or like device.
lt is the primary object of my invention to provide means for maintaining the devices or articles being displayed in a uniform position irrespective of whether the rack is lilled with such devices or articles or only partially tilled.
It is a. further object to so construct the arms utilized in my improved device that advertising matter or the like Contained on the front of the articles being displayed may be easily seen when Ait extends to the outer edges ot' the article.
It is a still further object to provide a device of cheap and economical construction, as well as of neat and ornamental appearance so as to be pleasing to the eye.
Vith the above, and other objects, in View, my invention consists in the arrangement, combination and construction oi' the various parts ot' my improved device, as described in the specitication, claimed in my claim and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is an elevation showing my improved device.
Fig. 2 is a sectional View taken on line 2--2 of Fig.1. f'
.I have 'shown a rack consisting of Vtwo side arms 5 and 6 having slots 7 and 8 respectively provided therein. bottom arm 9 having a slot 10 therein is also provided. The three slots 7 8 and 10 are provided with a common guide member consisting of a rivet 11, so that when the arms are moved inwardly or outwardly, the rivet 11 may act both as a guide member and a stop for limiting the movement of the arms.`
I also provide a base plate 12 and a top plate 13, which may be joined together at their tour corners by Welding or otherwise, in order to make the device of a unitary construction.
The device may then be secured by tacks or other similar means through the openings 14 in the four corners thereof to a display board 15.
The plates 12 and 13 are of thin relatively flexible metal which bears against the arms 5, 6 and 9 so as to hold them in any desired adjusted position and at the same time permit the movement of the arms either inwardly or outwardly by the exertion of a slight pressure thereon.
'lhe ends of the arms 5, 6 and 9 are bent forwardly to form end portions 16 and then are reversely bent to I'orm front portions 17. 'lhe front portions 17 are provided with. cut out openings 18and are of curved tormation so as to cause them to project over the advertisingmaterial or other article being displayed, shown as 19to a greater vextent in the center thereof thanat the edges thereof. The cut out portions 18 make possible the reading of any matter on the advertising or other matter 19, which may extend to the edges thereof vand the tapering of the portionsl? of the arm from the edges thereot, provides a relatively far reaching portion of the arm for holding the advertising or other matter in place and at the same time utilizes a relatively small amount ot' the vtace of the advertising or other matter.
Positioned on the plate 13 and ysecured f thereto, as at 29, by welding or otherwise, is
a strip of relatively thin and flexible material 20 bent soV as to normally extend to a position substantially fiush with, or a little beyond, the outer face of the portion 17 of the arms 5 and 6. When the rack is filled with advertising mattei', or other articlesbeing displayed, the flexible member 2O will be depressed toward the arm 9, whereas when the rack is not filled, the flexible member 20 will press outwardly against the advertising or other matter 19 so as to maintain thesame constantly pressed against the portion 17 of the arms and cause the rack to appear iilled. i
It is obvious that the spring orflexible member 2O may be utilized in any one of a number of rdilerent manners and that various other changes may be made in the arrangement, combination and construction of the various parts of my improved device without departing from thek spirit of my invention, and it is my intention to cover by my claim such changes asl may be reasonably included within the scope t-hereol.`
What I claimis:
In a rack for holding advertising matter, the combination of a plurality of intersecting arms each having a slot adjacent one end thereof and each having the other end thereof apertured and return bent to form hooks for supporting advertising matter, a base plate having apertured corners positioned beneath the intersection of usaid arms, a 5 rivet in said base plate extending through the slots in said arms, a top plate havingr apertnred eornersaligned' with the apexl tured corners of said base plate positioned over the intersection ot said arms and engaging said rivet, and a spring finger on said top plate extending` outwardly therefrom, i'or holding advertisingT mattei' in an upright position in said hooks.
