' J. KOHAN] ENDYPLATE FOR SHIPPING TUBES Filed June 20, 192-7 Inventor Attorngy Patented May 22, 1928.
PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN KOHAINI, 0F BENNINGTON, VERMONT.
ENDPLATE ron SHIPPING TUBES.
Application filed June 20, 1927. Serial No. 200,072.
My invention relates to end plates for shipping tubes or the like and has for its principal object to provide a metallic or other rigid head for tubes within which fabric or other flexible goods are customan ily shipped, the metallic head arranged thereon serving to protect the same from in- .jury and to retain the cloth orother material in a smooth roll within the tube and to prevent the cloth from becoming wrinkled or otherwise disarranged during the ship ping of the same.
Another object of the invention is to provide a metallic head for rolls of fabric so as to protect the same during the shipment thereof and which upon the delivery of the goods to the purchaser may be returned to the shipper, detached from the roll upon which the same is arranged during shipping in order that the heads may be again placed in use.
Other objects and advantages reside in the special construction, combination and arrangement of the various elements forming the invention as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein:
In the drawings: K
Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view through a shipping tube showing my invention in use thereon,
Figure 2 is an outer end view, and Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view through one of the heads.
Referring now to the drawing I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of my invention comprising a head for shipping tubes including an annular plate member indicated at 5 having a relatively large opening concentrically formed therein and about the edge of which is arranged hub 6 adapted to be inserted inwardly at opposite ends of the shipping tube and forming the end of a roll about which fabric indicated at 7 or other woven material may be rolled in a convenient manner for shipping. v
The outer periphery of the plates 5 is formed with a flange 8 arranged at the opand serving to posite side from the hub 6 and to which. flange is attached the outer end of radially extending rib 9having their inner ends connected with an inner hub indicated at 10 extending longitudinally through. the outer hub 6 and spaced therefrom. I i
The inner ends of the ribs 9 are formed into longitudinally extending partitions 11 disposed between the inner and outer hubs brace the same in spaced relation.
As clearly shown in Figure 2 of the drawing the plate section 5 may be provided with a suitable grille work of any desired design, which serves to decrease the weight of the plate as well as to provide adistinguishing means for the shipper so that he may identify the head by the character of thegrille work. In addition, the name of the shipper may be stamped upon the head atany suitable place thereon in order that the heads may be returned after the goods have been delivered.
After the cloth has been rolled upon the hub 6 the same may then be placed in the usual shipping tube indicatedat 12 havin the customary end cover plate 13 provide therefor. I
It is obvious that the invention is susceptible to various changes and modifications without departing from the spirit thereof or the scope of the appended claim and I accordingly claim all such forms of the device to which I am entitled.
I claim: 7 I
In a head for shipping tubes, a plate member, an outer hub formed at one side there of, a flange arranged at the opposite side thereof, radially extending ribs having their outer ends connected to said flange, and an inner hub concentrically arranged in said outer hub and connecting the inner ends of.
said radial ribs, the inner portions of said ribs also extending longitudinally between said hubs, whereby to .secure the same in spaced relation.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
JOHN KOHANI.
