BANK-PROTECTING DEVICE.

Application filed March 17, 1927. Serial No. 176,183.

This invention relates to bank protecting devices, and the object of the'invention is to provide a means for passing articles through a bank tellers window without exposing the teller to robbery by persons on the outside of the window.v

A further object of the invention is to provide a tellers window of the character described backed up with bullet-proof glass and arranged so that a gun cannot be inserted through any part of the window opening.

A further object of the invention is to provide a rotatable table or deal tray by which articles may be passed from the exterior to the interior. of the tellers window, the tellers window extending in close proximity to the upper edge of the deal tray.

Another object of the invention is to provide a deal tray having partitions dividing the tray into compartments, the partitions preventing the use of a gun between the lower edge of the bullet-proof window and the bottom of the tray.

These objects and the several novel features of the invention are hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and the preferred form of construction by which these objects are attained is shown in the accompanying drawings in which Fig. 1 is an elevation of a tellers window equipped with my bank protecting device. As shown in Fig. 2 a. housing 1 is provided which is formed from east bronze and is secured on the usual shelf provided at the tellers window. This bronze housing, as shown in Fig. 3, is of sufficient depth to re ceive the rotatable table or deal tray 2. The deal tray 2 is also formed of cast bronze and the bronze in both the housing and tray is sufliciently soft so that a bullet will tend to embed therein rather than. glance 0E. The deal tray is set into an opening in the housing 1 so that the upper edge of the deal tray is flush with the upper surface of the housing. A channel 3 extends across the upper surface of the housing and is adapted to receive a bullet-proof glass panel'i. A stem 5 is secured to the center of the channel3 and extends downwardly through aboss provided therefor in the deal tray 2 and is supported at the bottom in a member 6 shown in Fig. 3. A ball thrust bearing 7 is.positioned between the deal tray and the member 6 so that the deal tray is freely rotatable about the stem 5. The channel .3 is secured at the opposite ends to the upper surface of the housing 1. This device may also be used for ticket windows and other places of like character where a safe extends across the top of the deal tray and supports the bullet-proof glass lwhich is apertured to receive a speaking tube 5. This speaking tube 5 is preferably provided with shutters which allow sound to travel therethrough but prevent the possibility of shots passing therethrough. In this form the bullet-proof glass 4 may be a part of the front of thetellers cage. In either case the device is operated by placing the bank book in one of the pockets 11 and turning the deal tray tobring the bank book to the teller or to the customer as desired. a n

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is- 1.
