Description

Dec. 14, 1937. L. R. STADTLER 2,102,169
CASHIER S PROTECTOR Filed Dec. '21, 1955 INVENTbR r ATTORNEY uowiq RSTADTLER.
Patented Dec. 14, 1937 UNITED STATES PATENT QFFlCE CASHIERS PROTECTOR Ludwig It.
Stiidtler, New York, N. Y., assignor of 1 Claim.
This invention relates to devices for protecting bank officials, paymasters and like persons from danger by thugs, robbers and assassins.
An object of the invention is to provide an 5 effective defense from depredators, alike avoiding loss of money and life. 7
Another purpose is to produce such danger deterring means in forms which may be applied to existing structures at a moderate expense.
10 These and like valuable objects are attained by the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and shown in the annexed drawing, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the general ensemble of a bank structure embodying the improvements.
Figure 2 is a perspective View of the safety window closure elements.
Stated in general terms the device consists of a narrow enclosed vestibule into which one or more customers enter through a revolving door,
opposite to which is a cashiers window where the financial transactions take place.
Should the cashier become alarmed it is possible for him to close the window with a bullet proof shutter.
Referring in greater detail to the drawing, the numeral 15 designates a platform or floor from 30 which rise the walls it of a preferably narrow compartment ll, the upper portion of its walls being formed of spaced overlapping impregnable plates 18 and covered by a roof l9.
This compartment is directly in front of the cashiers room, and the entrance is controlled by a revolving door 20, .its wings filling the entire passage.
The opposite end of the compartment is separated from the cashiers room by an impregnable wall constituting a partition 25, having on its lower portion a shelf 26 extending into the compartment I1, and in which is revolubly mounted a circular money transfer tray 27.
Above the tray in the partition 25 is a framed window 35 separating the cashiers room from the customers room, the window being provided with a slidable shutter 36 to be actuated, if desired, by the cashier, and at the front of the window is a metal screen 31 hinged on pins 38.
This screen is formed to present a convexly curved surface directed towards the cashiers room and is controlled by a roll 39 carried by a lever ii] pivoted to the frame 35 and provided with an operating handle it accessible to the cashier, the function of the curved screen being to deflect bullets from the cashiers room to the customers compartment from whence they may come. The metallic slide or shutter 36 is also provided for a similar purpose.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that a cashier is safely protected from danger in case of robbery and that the robber may be held until the authorities have been called to arrest such parties as are within the customers compartment, escape being rendered substantially impossible.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new and sought to secure by Letters Patent, is:
In a protective device for a cashiers room having a customers compartment adjacent and an impregnable wall therebetween provided with a window having a frame, a convexly curved impregnable shutter pivoted at its lower edge to said frame, a lever pivoted to said frame near its upper part, a roll carried by said lever to contact said shutter whereby vit may be swung upwardly to close the window space, a handle on said lever, all of said elements extending into the cashiers room and a metal slide movable to close the win' dow.
