UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
LANDON D; SMITH, OF NEW YORK',.N. Y., ASSIGNOB OF ONE-HALFTO HARRY ARCHER,
7 OF NEWYORK, N. Y. i
BULLETIN BOARD.
Application filed October 17, 1927. Serial No. 226,806.
My invention relates to a bulletin board and particularly to a board adapted for displaying neighborhood bulletins, that is The general object of my invention is to provide a novel bulletin board for the in- I dicated purpose, to afford in addition'to the merely illustrative of one example of the inv frontal display a rear view where facts respecting the particulars of a given advertisement are noticed, for instance, the date ofthe insertion and the expiration of the term of display. i
A further object ofthe invention is to provide an improved structure of board, with means for holding the display cards in position, and characterized by the facility with which the cards maybe inserted and removed by the dismemberment of parts of the structure. 7 v
Reference is to behad to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification,
it being understood that the drawing is vention. I i A Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bulleti board embodying my invention;
Figure 2 is an enlarged View of the bulletin board; 1
Figure 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Figure 2; V
Figure 4 is a section on the line 4--4 of Figure 3;
Figure 2; 1
Figure 6 is a section on the line 6-6 of Figure 5;
Figure 7 is a detail in section on the line 7-7 of Figure 2;
Figure 8 is a section onthe line 8--8 of Figure 2 given to show a detail of one of the transverse elements, and
Figure 9 is a fragmentary perspective view showing a view of a portion of one of the transverse elements.
In carrying out my invention in practice in accordance with the illustrative example, a rectangular frame 10 is provided having a prop 11, the upper divergent ends of which are looped as at 12, and the terminals 13 of which are directed laterally outward into igure 5 is a section on the line 5--5 of engagement with the frame for pivotally connecting the prop. 'The display cards are indicated by the letter A and are in position against the backboard 14 Said back 14 has various openings 15 to display a portion of the back of each individual card. The front of the cards A may bear any suitable announcement or advertisement relat ng to trade orbusiness, while the backs, showing through the openlng 15, may bear important information such as the date of entry and the date of expiration of the particular card. The back plate 14 has an.
The backboard 14 is provided at the front with a vertical rib 22 and transverse elements 23. The rib 22 is centrally disposed and the elements 23 are disposed at opposite sides. It will be observed that the strips composing the elements 22 are passed through the backboard "14*. and present tongues24 bent downwardly at the back of the backboard 14. The transverse elements 23 are upset at their front ends into flanged form to receive the cards A, the said elements 23, like the elements 22, passing through slots in the backboard 14, and belng formed with bent fastening tongues 25.
The side channel members 20 are in two sections, the numeral 120 indicating the adjacent edge portions thereof. The said side channel members 20 are perforated in register with the holes in the flanges 116 of the backboard 14 so that the ivotal terminals 13 of the prop 11 passtirough said flanges 116 and also through the Web of the channel elements 20.
Reverting again to the offset flange 16 received in the channel 19 of the return portion 18 of the bottom bar 17 the said assembl'age permits of the flange 116 being inserted in said channel 19 and permitting of the upper end of the backboard 14 being brought to a snug fit at the top of the frame 10.
As best shown in Figures 8 and 9, the transverse elements 23 are each formed with a longitudinal rib 26 along the medial line, this rib being the terminal edges of the material of each element 23, which material is folded over on to itself and forming the T-head or flanged front of each of said elements. lt wlll be observed from Figure 8 that the rib 26 as shown at the right of Figure 8 affords clearance beneath the flanged front end for slipping a card A beneath the same, while as seen at the left of Figure 8 adjacent to the central rib 22, the front flanged end of each element 23 is pressed down into close relation to the backboard 14 so as to have a clamping action exerted on the card at the upper and lower edges of each card. The rib 26 omitted from the extreme end of the element 23 or is ofa negligible height so as to permit of that end of said transverse element being in close relation with the backboard 14:.
The described construction provides a strong and simple structure and one easily dismembered for the insertion and removal of the display cards A.
I would state furthermore that while the illustrated example constitutes apractical embodiment of my invention, 1 do not limit myself strictly to the exact details herein i1 lustrated, since, manifestly, the same can be considerably varied without departure from the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
I claim:
LA bulletin board including a .rectangular frame formed of channel bars, a backboard having a flange at its lower end, a channel member fitting within thebottom of said frame and presenting a transverse channel in which said flange is accommodated, andside channel strips formed in sections and fitting into the sides of the said channel frame.
2. A bulletin. .boarld. including :axrectangir lar frame formed of channel bars, a backboards'having side'fianges through which the pivotal terminal members of the prop also extend.
3. A'bulletin board including a rectangular frame, a backboard, side strips along the side members of the frame at the interior, a bottom strip between the side strips and the lower ends of the frame, and an offset flange on the backboard at the bottom, said bottom strip'having a channel receiving said offset flange on the backboard.
4. A bulletin board including aframe, a backboard in said'frame, and means to hold cards, said card holding means in'clu'ding transverse elements presenting flange'dfront ends beneath which cards maybe inserted, said transverse elements affording clearance at oneeend thereof for the insertion of a card and lying in close relation'to said back board. at'the opposite end of each strip so as to'have a clamping action on the, inserted card.
Signed at vNew York in the county of New York andState of New York this 5th day of. Octobeig A. 11,1927.
