IMPROVEMENT INAARGAND GAS-BURNERS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 166,926, dated August 24, 1875; application filed August 4, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JIM BILLINGs FULLER, of Brooklyn, New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Means of Regulat-ing the Flow of Gas in Argand Gas-Burners, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, wherein similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each ligure.
Before describing my invention I will state that I am aware that burners are in use in which a valve is raised and depressed for the purpose of regulating the flow of gas by means of a lever and'screw, the end of the screw being the valve.
My invention consists in the combination of a lever, a pin, (out out as shown,) a perforated or slotted Jcube, and a bushing or female screw, the whole being constructed and arranged as hereinafter fully shown and described.
In the drawing, A represents the upper portion of an argand gas burner. B B are the hollow arms. C is the pillar; D D, the apertures for the escape of gas. E is a female screw or bushing, soldered or otherwise secured in the lower end of the pillar. F is a vertical tube, the lower end being secured in the top of the bushing E, as shown, and the upper end being secured to the top of the pillar. G is a pin fitted to the inside of the tube F. There is a head on the lower end, to prevent its rising, and a lever secured to the upper end, which prevents its depressing or lowering. The lower end of the pin is cut away, as shown, so as to allow the gas to flow up into the tube by the inlet J, and out through the slot I, hereinafter described, into the charnber K, and thence, through the arms B, to the apertures D. I is a slot or opening in one side of the tube F, near its lower end. By turning the lever H to the right or left the pin opens or closes the slot I, thus regulating the flow of gas.
I do not claim, broadly, a valve, an inlet, or a lever for regulating the flow of gas.
I claiml. The combination of the slotted or perforated tube F, the pin Gr, made and out out as described, so as to form the inlet J, and the bushing E, all constructed and arranged within the pillar of an argand gasburner, substantially y as and for the purposes described.
2.' The combination of the lever H, the pin G, the tube F, and the bushing E, substantial ly as set forth.
JIM BILLIN GS FULLER.
