UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS H. BULLOCK AND THOMAS H. BULLOCK, .13., OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
FASTENING DEVICE.
Application filed September s; a I i A his invention relates to 1*.nprovements in looking or fastening devices or lamp shade or globe holders, and is in the nature of an improvement upon the holding device set forth in our co-pending patent application,
S. N. 42,870. In thatcase, the globe holder is shown provided with a cam-like member adapted to secure the flange of the globe within the rim of the holder but to Insure shade or globe holder with our fastening device applied, and Fig. 2 is a view looking upwardly at the same.
3 indicates the depending rim of the fixture within which is secured the resilient straps i, 5 and 6, 7 which engage within the concave flange of the globe. The free ends of the straps 6, 7 overlap, as shown, the strap 7 being projected by the cam 8, pivotally secured at 9, as shown. 10 indicates afinger piece, and 11 a hook for locking the cam in position. 12 is a link pivotally mounted in the rim of the holder for engagement with the hook 11.
Normally, the spring straps 6, 7 lay substantially within the concave rim of the holder, but when a globe has been inserted in the rim thereof in the usual manner, partly resting upon the straps 4-, 5, the finger piece 10 may be pushed to the right, looking at Fig. 2, thereby projecting the free ends of the spring straps 6, 7 into the concave flange of the globe, providing additional support therefor, and in order to prevent the same from working loose, free end of the link or Ushaped member 12 is then thrown over the hook l1, securely holding the same in locked po si-tion. l I
to release the same, a slight movement of the finger piece 10 to the right, looking at Fig. 2, will allow clearance for lifting the link from the hook, and by then moving the finger piece leftwardly, the globe will drop 9, 1925. Serial No. 55,257.
free at that side and may be withdrawn from so the rim of the holder in the usual manner.
Of course it will be understood that various modifications may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without dc )artin from the s)irit of the invention as claimed.
\Ve claim I .1. In combination with a shade holder of the class described, a depending flange and means projecting inwardly therefrom adapted to support a globe, one of said means hav- .ing 7 overlapping parts normally substantially parallel with said flange, a pivoted lever for bendingsaid parts inwardly, and an outside link for holding said lever.
2. In combination with a shade holder of the class described, a depending flange and means projecting inwardly therefrom. adapt ed to support a globe, one of said means having overlapping parts normally substantially parallel with said flange, a pivoted lever for bending said parts inwardly.
3. In combination with a shade holder of the class described, a depending flange and means projecting inwardly therefrom adapted to support a globe, one of said means having overlapping parts normally substantially parallel with said flange, a pivoted lever for bending said parts inwardly, said lever having a hook, and holding means 30 upon said shade holder for engaging said hook.
4. In combination with a shade holder of the class described, a depending flange and means projecting inwardly therefrom adapt- .95
ed to support a globe, one of saidmeans having overlapping partsv normally substantially pa 'allel with said flange, a pivoted lever for bending said parts inwardly, said lever having a hook, and holding means upon said shade holder for engaging said hook, said holding means comprising a' pivoted link.
In testimony whereof we hereunto aflix our signatures.
