very little effort, with the result that the toy can be operated and enjoyed by young and old.
A further object of the invention is to provide a musical toy that is very simple in construction, strong and durable, yet is inexpensive to manufacture.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the sev eral views, and in which: 7
Figure l is a plan view of the toy which forms the subject matter of the present invention. p
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the rotary member.
Figure 3 is a sectional View taken on line 33 of Figure 2. t
Figure 4- is' a sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Figure 2.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary sectionalview to illustrate the specific construction of one of the sound producing members or whistles.
Figure 6 is a perspective view of one of the sound producing members per se.
Referring to the drawings in detail it will be noted that the rotary member is preferably formed from a pair of cooperating disks 1 and 2 which may be constructed of any material, and in order to associate these disks 1 and 2 as best shownin Figure 3 of the drawings, I have provided a circumferential flange 3 on the disk 1. This flange 3 engages the periphery of the disk 2 and has inwardly extending therefrom an annular flange 4 disposed in'clamping engagement with the disk 2.
the rotary member.
The sound producing members or whistles are indicated by the reference numeral 5 and while I have shown these members 5 of cylindrical formation, it will be obvious that they can be formed into oval, cubical or tubular shape, without departing from the spirit of the invention. The sound producing members are each provided with an annular flange arranged at, right angles to the.body portions thereof and these annular flanges are disposed between the disks 1 and 2 for securing the sound producing, members in operative position and preferably upon opposite sides of the rotary mem- 7 her and oppositely disposed with respectto each other as shown in Figure 3. However, these sound producing members may also be arranged at various angles with respect to each other as well as with the center of The sound producing members are provided with slots 6 which may be formed therein in a transverse direction as shown in Figure 6 or may follow the curvature of these members.
Arranged in spaced relation and upon opposite sides of the center of the disks 1 and 2 are eyelets 7 through which is passed the looped portions of a flexible element 8 through the medium of which the rotatable member is rotated, and this rotating action is accomplished by first swinging the rotatable member in a manner whereby the flexible element is caused to be twisted upon itself and upon opposite sides of the rotatable member, and after twisting the flexible ele ment, the rotatable member can be rotated merely by alternately slacking and drawing taut upon the flexible element.
From the above description and disclosure of the drawings, it will be obvious that I have provided a toy that is very simple in construction, with the result that it is inexpensive to manufacture, yet will produce maximum amusement with very little effort.
It is thought from the foregoing descrip tion that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes through said eyelets, slotted noise producing fall Within the scope of the appended claim. members secured upon the outer faces of 10 What I claim is: said disks, and flanges on said noise pro- A toy of the character described coinprisducing members and disposed between said 5 ing a rotatable member including disks sedisks for holding said members in operative cured together in confronting relation with position.
