applicati@4 :um January' The present invention relates to a new` window construction m which the upper sash and two lower sashes open outwardly, and amongv the objects of my` invention are the following: f i r, `To provide a; window construct-ion '1n which the upperlsash is so formed as to open downwardly andoutwardly, being ,hinged on a movable horizontal axis, andthe,` two lower sashes openoutwardly but .are hinged on vertical axes. y l
To afford a window construction inwhich theupper sash is constructed slide downwardly whenopening outwardly so as to leave a space for ventilation above the top off the upper sash is open.
A further object is to providel afcomf.
hination-in which theupper sash.` may be an awning or opaque `glass such as the vlzor of anautomobilehaving a flexible side member forn protect-ion against inclement weather,
together with outwardly, opening` windows in the bottom sash andpsuch other objects,`
advantages and` capabilities as` will `be later more fully` appear..` i ,1.
My inventlon furtherresides in the "comu bination, construction and arrangement of parts illustratedin the accompanying drawing, and while Ihave shown therein a prefeared embodiment oftmy invention I wish it understood that the same is susceptible of` i modification and changewithout departing from the spirit of my invention.
p Referringtothe drawings, Fig. 1 is a perspective view of my, improved window construction. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary perspective View of the upper corner ofthe windowshowing the upper sash open. i
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view of the upper portion of my improvedv window, and;
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary elevational view of an upper corner of my window looking from the inside. y y
My invention-more in detail comprises an l upper sash 1 carrying a corner brackety 2.
14, 1a26-. serial no. s1,149.`
A flange 3 of this corner bracket l2 is slidably attached to a hollow plate 4 which is secured to the side of the plate `4f has a slot 6 in which as the sash l'is opened the pin 7 slides downwardly 1n the slot 6 so as to leave afspaoe 9 for ventilation above the topof the sash 1. Simultaneously withtlhe downward movement of the upper edge of sash 1, the body of the sash swings outwardly by virtueiofits pivotal `connection with the outer end` 0f each of the links 10, the inner ends ofwhiohV are pivotally connected to the window frame.
The upper sash 1 is provided with flexible members 11 covering the" sides inorder to protectagainst inclement weather. It will be seenv that these flexible membersY provided y window frame 5` by lugs` and rivets, bolts orthelike. This,
slides a pin 7f having a headS. It will be clearly seen that "It wilLbe readily seen `that mylnew winy dow construction `involves simplicity and ease of installation.` There are no com` plicatedfparts to get out of repairandi` any parts may" be easily replaced -`or repaired. llt may beusedasa window solely or in combination with 'an awning" in the upper sash. `I Iaving now described my invention,"I claimt"V i 1. A window construction comprisingk a. downwardly moving and, outwardly opening upper sash, a corner bracket attached to said sash. a plate secured to the window frame adjacent to said bracket, and having a slot. a pin attached to said corner bracket slidable into said slot, and a pair of outwardly opening lower sashes.
`2. A window construction Comprisingr a sashhaving a corner bracket, a plate secured to the window trame adjacent to said bracket and having a. slot, a pin attached to said corner bracket and slid able in said slot whereby said sash may move downwardly and leave a space above the sash for ventilation and vided with a corner bracket having a flange,
Y. having a corner awindow frame having a plate provided with av slot..a pin attached to said corner bracket and slidable in said slot, and a pair of links each pivoted at one end tothe sash and at the other end to the window frame so that as the sash is swung outwardly its uppery end` will simultaneously move downwardly a limited distance.
5. In a window construction comprising a sash adapted to be used as an awning and bracket adapted to slide in an adjacent slotted-plate for moving said sash downwardly and outwardly and weather protecting side pieces on said sash.l
. 6. Av window construction comprising an up rsash, a corner bracket attached to said sas a platesecured to the window frame adjacent said bracket and having a slot, a pin att-ached tosaid bracket and slidable in said slot for moving said sash downwardly, links for moving said sash outwardly, a. flexible, member on the sides of said upper sash and a pair of outwardly opening lower sashes separated :from said upper sash by a transverse bar, .Y
7. Window construction comprising a window frame, a pair of outwardly opening sash pivotally mounted in the lower portion of the frame, an upper sash in said frame, a
hollow slotted plate secured to said frameV at each side of the upper sash,l the slot of each bracket beingr arranged at an angle to the vertical, a bracket on the upper sash atV each corner and yeach having a pinslidable in said slot, a pair of links each pivoted at one end to the upper sash and at the other end to the window frame, so that as the uppersash, a bracket on said upper sash provided with a pin, a slotted plate secured to the side of the window frame and adapted to receive the pin, and apair of outwardly opening lower sashes.
10. A window construction comprising a downwardly moving and outwardly openingh upper sash, means for securing such sas upon a horizontal axis, said means coinprising abracket member secured to the sash and a slotted plate secured to the side of the window frame,n and a pair of outwardly opening lower sashes.
11. A Window construction comprising a downwardly moving and outwardly opening uppersash, means for securing said sash upon a, horizontal axis, said means comprising a bracket,V member mounted on the edge of said sash and a slotted Vplate secured to the side of the window frame.y
12. A window construction comprising a downwardly moving and outwardly opening upper sash, means for adjustablyV securing l said sash" u pon av v horizontal axis., said K etA member se cured to the sash and a slotted'plate secured to the side of the window-frame, anda ilexible member secured to the side of the sash means comprising a brack and the window frame.
