ELECTRODE.
Application filed January 26, 1927, Serial No. 163,607, and in Japan October 5, 1926.
This invention relates to improvements in electrode of the type embodying means for stimulating the circulation of blood and achieving other healing effects by heat and moisture as well as electric current.
The object of the invention is to obtain an electrode applicable to any desired part of the body without trouble by flattening a cylindrical electrode and removing therefrom W such projections as the jacks and plugs that are found in ordinary electrodes. The electrode of this invention consists of a short cylindrical casing having a cover like a dish plate, a jack in a recess for receiving a plug through said cover and a stop plug through said cover and casing.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, Fig. 1, plan view of this invention, partly cut off to show the recess for the jack;
Fig. sectional side elevation of Fig. 1. Fig. 3, stop plug inserted through the cover plate and the casing.
In the drawing, the cylindrical casing 1) closed at both ends which forms the body of the electrode is made in the shape of a shallow dish and has on its more or less convex bottom several holes for inserting absorhent cotton The wall of the casing has a recess (3) in which a jack (4) for receiving a plug is so fixed that its outer edge is within the cylindrical surface of the easing. The wall is provided with several screw-threaded recesses (5) to receive set screws (7 A cover plate (6) is recessed to receive the top ends of the casing (1) having holes for the set screws and a hole (8) through which to insert a plug for the jack (4:) respectively. Through one of the side Walls of the cover plate (6) and the casing (1) is made an inlet mouth (9) which is provided with a stop plug (10). Although only one electrode is shown in the drawing, it is to be understood that two electrodes may be used, each connected with an electrical conductor of the opposite polarity.
The following is a manner of operating this invention First fill the electrode with warm or hot water of suitable temperature or with medical liquid through the inlet (9). Then, insert each plug. terminal of the current generator into each jack (4) through the hole (8) of the cover plate and apply the electrode to any desired part of the body in'the ordinary way. p
All the electrodes hitherto known are of a long tubular shape with ordinary screw terminals and inlet mouth pieces having plugs projected from one end of the tube or casing which makes them inconvenient to handle in a sick bed. However, in this invention the casing is substantially flat, the connecting jack is fixed within the cylindrical surface of the casing and the liquid inlet is the only opening in the side walls of the cover plate and the casing, so that the flat surface of the casing may be applied to any part of the body. In fact, an invalid can receive treatment from this electrode as he is lying in bed.
I claim:
An electrode comprising in combination, a fiat disk like casing of conducting material provided with perforations having absorbent cotton feathers therein, a flat ended nonconducting cover plate, a recess in the side wall of said casing, a jack mounted therein, an aperture'in the cover plate, through which to insertthe terminal plug for the jack, an inlet in the side walls of said cover plate and easing adapted for the passage of Water or other liquids, and a stop plug for said inlet.
In testimony whereof I have ailixed my signature.
YOSHITOSHI NOISHIKI.
