COMBINED IRONING BOARD AND TABLE.

Application led February My present invention has reference to a combined ironing board and table, and my Vobject is thek provision of a combination article of furnitui'e of this type in which the ironing and sleeve boards are wholly concealed when the device is set up as a table whose top presents a smooth unbroken surface and in which the ironing and the sleeve boards are arranged upon the swingable sec` tion of the table top so that the same may be readily brought to operative position by simply swinging the saidtable top section over one of the lixed to-p sections.

A further object is the provision of a combination article of fnrnitiire of this type in which both an ironing board and a sleeve board are mounted on the under face of a swingable table top section in a manner whereby the ironing board may be moved longitudinally in one direction over the said section, when the device is in one position, and by virtue of such movement will bring a sleeve board to operative position, means being provided for firmly supporting and locking both boards in their said operative positions. l

To the attainment of the foregoing and other objects which will present themselves as the nature of the invention is better understood, the improvement further resides in certain features of construction, combination and operative association of parts, a satisfactory embodiment. of which is illustrated by the accompanying drawings.

my improved article Of furniture is to all appearances and purposes, an ordinary kitchen table. The table includes a substantially rectangular frame 2, supported, at its corners by legs 1. The top of the table is made up of three sections, indicated by the numerals 3, 4 and 5, respectively. The sections 3 and 5 are fixedly secured on the frame 2, while the intermediate section 4 is swiiigably arranged between the said sec tions 3 and 5. Pivoted links 5 provide a hinged joint between the fixed table top section 3 and the swingable section 4. The sections 3 and 4 are approximately of the same width, the fixed section 5 being narrower than the said sections 3 and 4. The free edge of the swingable top section 4 is beveled or inclined, as at 9, and is designed to contact with the similarly beveled or inclined inner edge 8 of the fixed top section 5, so that there will be a smooth and even joint between all of the sections when the section 4 is swung on the frame between the sections 3 and 5. Secured centrally on the under face of the swingable table top section 4 there is a longitudinally extending slotted dove-tailed rail 10 for a. slidable ironing board 11. The ironing board, on its under face, is formed with a pair of spaced longitudinally extending cleats 12 whose confronting faces are beveled, as at 13, for contacting with the outer angle edges of the rail 10. On one of these cleats 12, there is pivotally secured, as at 14, a latcliing dog 15. The free end of the this dog is designed to be received in a depression providing a keepi er 16 in the under face. of the swingable table top section 4. The dog has a lip eX- tensioii 17, whereby the said dog may be brought out of the keeper 16, but the outward longitudinal movement of the ironing board on the track 10 will cause the dog to gravitate into the keeper 16, and it is for the purpose of releasing the dog that the lip 17 is provided.

Secured on the under face of the. swingable top section 4, adjacent to one end thereof, there is one of the parallel arms of the substantially U-shaped bracket 18, and secured to the second parallel arm of this bracket there is a sleeve board 19. The arms of the bracket are preferably let in the top section 4 and the sleeve board 19, On the under face of the board there is a transverse cleat 20. Between the confronting faces of the swingable top section 4 and the sleeve board 19 there is a prop 21.

Fixedly secured, and depending from the inner end of the ironingboard 1l and Vdisposed cent-rally between the cleats 12-tliere is a plate or bracket 24. Having one V,end lixed in the prop 21 and-extending through an opening in the plate or bracket 24 there isa rod 25. This rod projectsV a. suitable distance beyond the prop and has an outer headedv end 23.

When the `ironing operation is completed and thedevice is to be employed as a table, the ironing board 11 is slid in vardly over the table top section #l and in its movement willA Contact with the prop 2l to n'iove the latter against the center ot the substantially U-shaped bracket 18. The dog 15 will automatically gravitate into its keeper opening- 16, and the outward move ment of the ironing` board 11 will 'cause the headed end 23 of the rod 25 to contact-with the plate or bracket 24;, drawing or imparting a longitudinal movement to the said rod and sliding the prop 21 on the under face of the sleeve board 19 to contacting engagement with the cleat- 20 and thereby effectively supporting the sleeve board. Because of the inclined or beveled contacting edges of the cleats 12 and the rail 10 the tilting of the projected end ot the 'ironing board will be prevented. Y
