This invention relates generally to the 1 I construction of containers or boxes formed of heavy paper stock and of a. typejadapted I to be shipped in flat or. unfolded condition and to be folded and fastened into container form asneeded. 1 1 p y The invention consists in the provision of a container structure of the general type referred to having a special form of fastening means adapted tobe attached to the container blanks and to occupy a.- iflat and-outof-the-way disposition thereon to facilitate shipment and storage of the blank in unfolded or disassembledcondition.
Another featnreTof the invention, consists in the construction .of the fasteningmeans which includes a pronged member having an eyeat one end and with the prong members lying, in a side-by-side relation in the same plane when in inoperative condition. The ,pronged member thus provided is adapted to be held in flat engagement with asurface of the container blank by means of a smaller clip or rivet passed through the ,material of the blank and through the-eye of the main clip member. In order to utilizethe pronged member for fastening the blank into position to form a container, the edge'portions provided withthe clips are bent-or folded into overlapping relation at the corners whereupon the prongs of the clip are bent outwardly, passed through openings formed for the purpose in the adjacent flap and clinched into holding relation thereto.

Referring to the .drawingsfor a more detailed description of the nventiomfa container blankrl O is shownflin Figure,9 which can be folded along the dotted lines ll and 12 to form. a rectangularcontainer or box .13 such as is shown in Figurel. The containenlifi is provided with overlapping corner flap members 1a which not only provide a reinforced corner construction. but. in addition, serve to receive fastener members whiclrare' used to fasten or attach the overlapping flap members together.
. A-suitable form of fastener forthc pui pose is shown in Figure 2. The fastener 15 is provided'at one end with an eye-opening 16 and'has a pair of prong members 17 6X" tending away therefrom in a side-by-side re lation in the same plane.
.In practice a set of the fasteners 15 is attached to a blank 10 as in Figure 9 by means of relatively smaller ancl'ioring clip members 18 which are passed through holes formed'for the purpose in the blank. The anchoring'clip members are provided with the outer surface of the complete container as in Figure 1. The prongs of the anchoring clip members 18 are passed through the eyes 16 of the fastener members 15 and clinched into a relatively flat relation to the inconspicuous heads which'are presented at forations 19 so disposed as to register with the fasteners 15 on the adjacent side wall of the blank when the blank is folded into its final container form. The'perforations have an elongation at right angles to the adjacent edges of the blank to accounnodate the width of the fasteners. IVhen in use the. prongs 1'? of the fasteners are passed through a perforation 19 and bent apart in opposite lirections as is shown in Figures 1 and 7, to hold the overlapping corner flap members 14- in place.
In Figure 8 of the drawing the prong members 17 are twisted as at 20 to prevent the withdrawal of the prongs through the perforation.
In Figure & of the drawing the edges of the prongs 17 of the fastener are provided with serrations 21 having abrupt edges 22 to prevent withdrawal of the prongs through the perforations and to thereby hold the container firmly in erect position.
In Figure 5 a somewhat similar construc tion is shown in which the prongs 17 have their edges provided with rounded notches 23 to provide serrations for a like purpose.
What I claim is 1. As an article of manufacture, a Container blank adapted to be formed into a box, fastener members formed of sheet metal and provided with an eye opening at one end, said fastener members including prong members extending in a side-by-side relation in the same plane, and anchoring members passing through the blank and the eye openings to hold the fastener member in a fiat disposition on a surface of the blank untii used to hold the blank in folded container form the anchoring members being visible from the exterior when the .blank is in folded form, the prongs being adapted to hold the box-in assembled relation by extending through apertures in the blank and by being spread beyond the aperture. I
2. As an article of manufacture, a containerblank adapted to be folded into a box, said blank having flat member extensions arranged when folded to provide a flap overlapping each side adjacent a corner of the box, fastener members forn'ied of sheet ing visible from the exterior of the resulting box, the prongs being adapted to hold the box in assembled relation by extending through apertures in the blank and by being spread beyond the apert ne.
3. As an article of 'mai'iufacture, a con tainer blank having two adjacent side portions, each side portion having attached thereto a flap adapted to overlap the adjacent side when the blank is in folded position, one of said sides having a hole therethrough, a second hole formed in the flap attached to said side, the second side portion having a 'pronged fastener secured thereto in flat con dition and adapted for cooperation with said second hole, and a pronged' fastener secured in flat condition to the flap attached to said second side and adapted for co-operation with said first-named hole.
