This invention relates to mortuary beds. An object of the invention'is to provide an improved mortuary bedhaving foldable end supporting frames comprising detachable sections, whereby parts of said end frames above the bed frame may be detached. Another object of the invention is toprovide an improved mortuary bed comprising end frames and means for extendinfrsaid frames to different vertical lengths, whereby the bed may be raised or lowered as desii-ed. l j
Other objects will appear from the following description, reference being made to the drawing, in which N Fig. 1 is a side elevation of my improved mortuary bed.
Fig. 2 is an end elevation showing the upper portion of the end frame detached.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view showing the construction of the end frames whereby the vertical length thereof may be extended or reduced, as desired.
Fig. l is a cross sectional view on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3.

A transverse pivotrod Sbelow the'bed frame is connected to each side of the frame section 1 by a short link 4 and a long link and is connected at each side to the foot section 2 by a short link 6 and a long link 7. This construction permits one of the bed frame sections to be folded under the other, ror in a relationship in which the two frame sections 1 and 2 are spaced apart a distance approximately equal to the combined length of the/links L.tand 6 at each side ofthe bed.
A pair of hollowvsupports 8 are pivotally connected to the outer ends of the bed frameV sections 1 and 2' respectively. The pivotal connection for each of said uprights 8 comprises a relatively short link 9 and arela long link 10, the ends of which links are pivotally connected to the uprights 8 and to depending plates 11 in rigid connection with the sides of the frames 1 and 2 respectively. This permits theuprights to be folded under the respective bed sectionsy 1 and '2 with which they are pivotally connected, or to be moved to position to support the bed as-shown. The parts are of such dimensions that the uprights 8 can be embed as shown comprises a the uprights 8 braced between the two sections l and 2 j `or reduce the vertical length ofthe `end frames of which the uprights 8 form apart.

A rod 19 extends rigidly beyond each of through a hole in the upper end of each latch lever 16 (Fig. 4,). A coil spring 20 encircles each of the yrods 18, the pair of said springs being exerted to press the upper ends of the latchlevers -16 awa from the uprifrhts 8 and to holdsaid latcli levers in late iing `engagement with the parts 15.
My invention comprises means for simultaneously releasing the two latch levers 16 at each end of the bed. As showna pair of levers 21 are pivotally connected at 22 near their inner ends and have angular `portions 23 at their ends,`through which the rods l19 extend. These angular extensions vare againstl the inner side of the levers 16. By pushing Y down the pivoted ends of thev levers 21, the
upper ends of the latch levers 16 are pushed outwardly toward the sides of the support-v ing frames in opposition tothe springs 20 a sufficient distance to release the hooks 17 from engagement with the elements 15. This will permit'theelements 15 to be moved to desired adjustments to obtain `the desired vertical length of the end supporting frames of whichthe elements 15 form a part.
