GAsoLrNE PUMP.
Application filed April 13, 1927.- Serial No. 183,424.V
My invention relates to gasoline dispens-V ing apparatus. i
It is the object of my invention to provide a dual dial construction located on opposite 6 sides of a gasoline dispensing pump andk illuminated from a common source, utilizing the interior of the enclosed casing as areflector to reflect light from the common source on -to the dial faces and dial hands.
Referring to the drawings, p
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of a gasoline dispensing pump employing my invention;
Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1 looking in the direction of the arrows;
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1 looking inthe direction of the arrows.
Referring to thevdrawings in detail, 1 represents a housing of a gasoline dispensing pump. This housing tapers to a throat 2 which is inwardly curved to form a dome like structure. Within this dome 2 lis mounted an electric light 3 so that the interior of the dome and the side walls of the casing 1 actas al reflector for the light 3. The light 3 is centrally located in such a manner that its rays are directed over the top of the dials 4.
These dials are protected bythe glass 5 in the frame 6 carried. in the casing 1. The
hands 7 pass over the face of the dials. The light from acommon source'is reflected over both dials an'd thence downwardly from the dome illuminating the dials without having direct illumination and without having any objectionable glare.
This simple construction of a single light permits of considerable economy in construction and also permits of reading the pump from either side with full illumination without having any glare which would reflectupon the glass over the dial making it diflicult for purchasers to read the registration.
It has been found that the illumination of the dial is highlyrdesirable but that any interior illumination must avoid direct light.
It is possible to utilize translucent dials with the form of my invention, if that is de# sired, and stillutilizing theadvantages of my arrangement.
It will be understood that I desire to compreh'end within my invention such modifica'.- V tions as may be necessary to adapt it to varying conditions and uses; l
-I-Iaving thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire tolsecure by Letters Patent is 1. In a gasoline dispensing pump, the combination with a housing, of a dome integral with the housing, spaced dials within Vthe housing the said dials being arranged to be visible to an observer, and a source of illumination within the dome arranged behind and between the said dials, the said. dials being adapted to'receive light by reflection from the said source of illumination.
2. In a gasoline dispensing pump, the combination with a housing, of a dome integral with the housing, spaced outwardly facing dials beneath the dome, a source of illumination within the dome arranged above, behind Yand between the dials, the said source of illumination being arranged to illuminate the face of `each dial between it and the housmg.
bination of a housing provided'with a plurality of spaced observation openings, a dial adjacent each opening,l each dial being spaced from the housing wall on the interior thereof, a dome on the said Vhousing and in tegral therewith, and a source of illumination fork the dials mounted inthe dome above, behind and .between the said dials and utilizing the interior of the dome as a reflector to illuminate the face of each dial betweenv it andthe housing. f Y

Y domevfor the said housing, la source of illu'- mination mounted in the dome, utilizing the interior thereof as a protection of the source of illumination and as a reflector, spaced dials belowand to either side of the said source of illumination within the housing, each dial having its face facing outwardly adjacent one of the said observation openings in the housing and so arranged that reflected light may pass between the faces of the dials and the housing, and transparent covers for the said dials to protect them.
3. In a gasoline dispensing pump, the com- 5. In a gasoline dispensing pump, the'combination with ajhousing of a dial within the housing and a source of illumination behind and above the said dial, the dial being adapted to receive light by reflection from the said source of illumination.

` tlial to render thesaitl dial Visibl.e,tlie Said` dial having its face 'facing` outwardly and So arranged that reflected light may pass rloetween the face of the dial and the housing.
7. In a gasoline dispensing pump, the Coniing arranged'tofilluminate by reflevtion the Ilae of the dial between it and the homing. In testimony whereof, I afx my Signature.
