My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in a rotary pump, and has for ,its object the provision of a rotary pump which may be used as a pump generally, but is especially adapted for use on mechanical refrigerators for compressing the refrigerating Huid.
It, is an object of the invention to provide a pump of this class which will be noiseless, continuous in operation, pumping a maximum volume, adapted for great speed, and one which can be produced and operated at a minimum cost.
Another object of the invention .is the provision of a pump of this class which may l be utilized for transmitting power where the use of belts is undesirable.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a pump of this class which will be compact so as to be adapted for mounting in small spaces, and which will be 'quite' positive in its operation.
Another object of the inventiona 1s the 'provision of a pump of this class which may be easily and quickly assembled.
Another object of the invention is the provision in a pump of this class of a cam operated blade so arranged as to be 1n contact with theeinner surface of the stator at.
all times without. necessitating the use of springs.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.

Fig. 4 is a perspective view of one of the blades used in the invention. t As shown in the drawings, they invention embodies a stator comprising )a cylindrical shell 9 having an eccentric bore [10 formed therein. A dapted for engaging rotatably in the shell 9 is a cylindrical rotor 11, the outside diameter of this rotor 11 being such that it engages the inner surface of the sha1 a e@ essere@ Opposite sides? the innersurface of the shell 9 bein formed e1- liptlcal, so that at. diametrica ly opposite sides, the rotor 11 engages the inner surface,
and at diametricallyv opposite sides at right angles thereto, there is considerable space between the inner surface of the shell 9 and the periphery of the rotor 11. Formed in one end of the rotor 11 is a socket 12 and a shaft 13 is fixedly mounted on the rotor 11 and projects therefrom, this shaft extending through a bushing 14 mounted in the cap 15 which is secured by the screws 16 to one end of the shell 9. There is shown mounted on the shaft 13 a pulley 17 whereby power may be transmitted from the pump.
The shaft 13 is provided with a reduced portion 18 engaging in a bushing 19 positioned in a socket 20 formed in the shaft 21, the reduced end 22 of which engages in the bore 23 formed in the cap 24 which is secured by the screws 25 on the op osite end of the shell 9, the shell 9, toget er with the caps 24 and 15 forming a housing which constitutes the stator. A set screw 26 engages the reducing portion 22 so as to retain the shaft 21 in fixed relation. Mounted on the free end of the shaft 2l is a cam 27.
Formed in the periphery of the rotor 11 are a number of grooves 28, each ycommunicating throughan opening 29 with thesocket 12. Positioned in each of the grooves 28 is a blade`30 having its v'outer edge curved, this outer edge being struck on the same circle that is determined by the periphery of the rotor 11. Extending inwardly from each of the blades 30 through the opening 29 is an arm 31 carrying on its inner end a roller 32 to engage the periphery of theA cam 27.
Formed in the shell 9 is an inlet port'33 and an outlet port 34, these inlet and outlet ports co-operating. There is also formed an inlet port 35 which is preferably posi-- tioned diametrically opposite to the inlet port 33, and there is formed an outlet port 36 co-operating with the inlet port 35 and positioned diametrically opposite to the outlet port 34. By loosening the set screw 26, the shaft' 21 may be adjusted so that the cam will be properly positioned to engage the rollers 32 and retain the'f'blades 30 in engagement with the inner surface of the shell 9 at all times, so that as the blade :approaches the inlet port 33, it will force device,

If desired, this pump may be used for transnntting power as one of the pumps may be positioned in a. suitable location for forcinor liquid through a piping to another pump tlocated in close proximity to the ma- -chine to bedriven, this machine being, if
desired, coupled directly to the shaft 13. In this manner, it becomes possible to drive machinery in various parts vvjhere the use of chains is undesirable or quite impossible.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of my invention, I do not Wish to limit myself to the precise' form of structure shown, but desire to avail myself such variations and modifications as may come Within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: l v
A rotary pump 'of the class. described having a stator, comprising: a cylindrical shell having an eccentric inner surface; 'a cap mounted on each end of said shell; a cylindrical rotor rotatably mounted in said shell; a shaft on said rotor projecting through one of said caps and one end of, and rotatable with, said rotor, formed in its opposite end; a rediiced portion on said shaft project-ing into said socket; a shaft ixedly mounted on the other cap and projecting into said socket, said shaft having a socket formed on its inner end for the reception of said reduced portion; a cam mounted on the inner end of said shaft, extending yradially outwardly from said reduced portion, said stator having aV of axially extending peripheral grooves; a blade radially movable in each of said grooves; anarm on each of said blades projecting inwardly into the socket formed in said rotor; a roller on the inner end of each of said arms engaging the periphery of said cam, said cam-retaining said blades in engagement With the inner surface of said shell, at all positions of rotation of said rotorfsaid stator having co-operating inlet and outlet ports formed therein.
