Description

April 17, 1928. 1,666,340
R. B. MITCHELL ANGHORING ELEMENT FOR CONCRETE CONSTRUCTION Fi1ed Jan. 26. 1927 IN VENTOR ATTORNEYS Patented Apr. 17, 1928.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT B. MITCHELL, OF ALBION, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR T UNION STEEL PRODUCTS COMPANY, OF ALBION, MICHIGAN.
ANCHORING ELEMENT FOR CONCRETE CONSTRUCTION.
Application filed January 26, 1927. Serial No. 163,650.
from the detailed description to follow.
The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure embodying the features of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application, in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective View of a fragment of floor or foundation havingmy improvements applied to or installed therein.
Fig. 2 is a detail view partially in section on a line corresponding to line 2-2 of Fig. 1..
Referring to the drawing, 1 represents a concrete foundation and 2 the floor sleepers laid thereon. My improved reinforcing 2.5 element consists of a rod 3 having spaced loop-like bends therein forming anchoring members 4 adapted to be embedded in a concrete foundation, wall or the like.
In the preferred form of my invention as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the reaches of the rod between these anchoring members are corrugated, the corrugations lying in the plane of the anchoring members so that when the anchoring members are embedded in the concrete body the open bends of the corrugations lie at the outside of the surface of the wall or foundation providing eyes 5 with which the ties 6 or other attaching means may be conveniently engaged.
These anchoring elements are laid while the concrete is in a plastic condition, the anchoring members being pushed into the plastic concrete.
In the embodiment shown in Fig. 2 the upwardly disposed bends project as shown.
My improved anchoring element is very economical to produce, and convenient to handle and position in the foundation.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. An anchoring element for use in concrete construction consisting of a rod having a plurality of spaced loop bends therein providing anchoring members, the reaches between the anchoring members being corrugated providing eyes facilitating the eugagement of tie members with the anchoring element when the anchoring members and the downwardly disposed portions of the corrugations of the reaches are embedded in a body of concrete.
2. An anchoring element for use in concrete construction consisting of a corrugated rod having spaced loop-like bends therein disposed in the plane of the corrugations and providing anchoring members, the corrugations facilitating the engagement of ties with said anchoring element when the anchoring members of the element are embedded in a concrete body.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
ROBERT B. MITCHELL.
