Description

Feb. 23 1926.
J. B. STRAUSS AUTOMOBILE BODY Filed Sept 2 UNE STATES JOSEPH B. STRAUSS, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
AUTOMGBILE BODY.
44 Application filed September I o aZZ whom it may concern:
e it known that I, Josnrn B. STRAUSS, a citizen of the United States, residing at ago, in the county of Cook nd State of 5 Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Automob1le Bod1es, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new and 1mproved automobile body and has for 1ts object to provide a new and improved body of this description formed of reinforced con- Chic crete teferring now to the accompanying drawings Big. 1 1s a side ele ation of one form 0 body embodying the invention;
Fig. 2 is a plan View of the body shown in Fig.
Fig.
is a sectional View taken on line 33 of Fig. l;
Fig. 4 is a sectional View taken on line 4 a of Fig. 1;
Fig. 5 1s a View of one of the frames showing the wire netting.
Like numerals refer to like parts Lhl oughout the several figures.
In forming the body I provlde a series of metal frames 1, 2, 3, at and 5. In these frames I provide concrete sections, the frames and concrete sections forming the body.
The frames 2 and t for example may form the doors and be hinged to the adjacent frames. bent edges.
The frames are provided with As shown in Fig. 3 the bounding portion of these frames are in the shape of angles, and the reinforced concrete is formed inside of these frames.
The coir crete is preferably arrange\. with thickened edges 8 and a thin connecting wall 9. It will thus be seen that by means of this construction the metal frames have concrete sections extending across the open spaces of said frames so as to fill such spaces, the concrete being thicker at the edges than at the remaining portions thereof.
The concrete is provic ed with any suitable reinforcing metal 10.
The upper edge of the metal frames forming the upper line of the body are preferably curved as shown in Fig. 4. Suitable seats ll are provided and I also prefer to provide in addition to the end pieces the cross pieces 13 and 14 which act as bracings as Weil as forming the back of the s These frames, except those form- 2, 1921. ing the doors, may be united so as to form top and bottom frames for the body. The bottom of the body may be made of any suitable material and may also be made of concrete by a construction similar to that of the sides of the body.
The various metal frames are provided with wire netting 16 (see Fig. which are attached to the frames and which are ,embedded in the concrete.
I claim:
1. An automobile body comprising a series of metal frames, concrete sections on tending across the open spaces of said frames so as to fill the spaces therein, the concrete being thicker at the edges of the sections of the body and movably connected thereto.
said frames fitted with wire netting imbedded in concrete, the concrete thickened at the edges where it joins the metal frame.
2. An automobile body comprising a series of metal frames, concrete sections ex tending across the open spaces of said frames so as to fill said spaces, the concrete being thicker at the edges of the sections than at the remaining portions, the metal frames of the concrete sections forming the floor and walls of the body, and doors at intervals in said body, said doors comprising anetal frames lit-ting into the metal frames of the body and inovably Connected thereto, said frames fitted with wire netting imbedded in concrete. said frames being of channel section to hold the concrete.
3. An autzmobile body comprising a bottom horizontal frame of metal with connecting transverse 11".8l1'lbGlS and wire netting, side and end frames connected therewith with connecting vertical members and wire netting, concrete embedding the wire netting, the netting reinforcing the concrete, the concrete forming the floor, walls and ends of the body, and metal parts extending across the body and bracing the walls together said franics forming the outer boundaries of the concrete sections and wire netting sections.
l. An automobile body comprising horizontal metal f 'ames at a distance from each other, said frames, comprising longitudinal and transverse members, vertical members bedded in concrete said frames forming the connecting the horizontal members at inter: Vals, Wire netting connected to sand metal Wire netting sections.
