METER. I
Application filed January 14, 1926. serial No. 81,166.-
,Thelpresent invention relates to an im I provement in meters, one object thereof being to provide means for preventing effectual tampering with the registering or measuring portions of gas meters and the like and more particularly to prevent the insertionof a wire into the measuring mechanism through either the inlet or the outlet ports of the'meter. One embodiment of my invention is illustrated in the drawings accompanying the present specification and in which I a solder receiving perforation 6.
I Figure 1 is a central longitudinal section V of an'inlet or outlet pipe connectlon secured connection consisting of a threaded coupling l I having an annular peripheral wall surroundingport 2 and a recess. 8 opening through '11 and a hollow extension or housing is soldered to the casing 1 in position to cover port 2 and perforation 6, an excess of solder being permitted to flow through and engage said perforation. The hollow extension comprises a. conduit 3 having a rear wall 9 opposite perforation 6, a baflle chamber-4 said peripheral wall into said chamber 4 end of a tampering wire. v rformed in a rear wall of conduit 3 seand having walls arranged to intercept the A shoulder 10 cured'to the upper wall of casing 1.- A-bafile 7 of annular or curved contour projects rearwardly from thefront wall of the chamber4 intoengagement with the wall-of cas-i on ALBANY, NEW YORK, AssIGNoR 'ro ing 1, being positioned'between the pofrt'27;
and conduit 3' to present a. wiredeflecti-ng barrier. 1 i I I In operation, it is contemplated that when a wire is inserted through the conduit 3, the end will bedeflected by the bafiie '7 and will then ride along the interior surface of the chamber 4 until it reaches the recess 8 where I j 7 it is intercepted and thus prevented'from curling back and then upwardly into theport 2. The recess 8 also serves as a sump for the accumulation of condensatesoccun ring in the conduit and thechamber I claim as my-inventionz V In a meter, the combination of a casing having a port, 'a pipe connection adapted to. be secured to said casing and provided with a battle chamber for covering said portand having a peripheral wall and'a front wall, a.
conduit opening into said'chamb'er through said peripheral wall, a downwardly curved baflle projectingrearwardly from the front wallof said chamber to the casing between said port'and said conduit, said peripheral I wall having a recess portion efiectivelypositloned opposite said conduit opening to'in-' tercept the end of a tampering wire or the like. t
In testimony whereof, Ihave signed my {2 name to this specification this 4th day of .January, 1926. i
