Description

w. J. BLANKINSHIP SLEEPING PILLOW Filed' oct. 11.192":
Inventor Atzorng Patented Apr. 3, 1928 PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM JuBLANK INSHIP, OF VALDOSTA, GEORGIA.
' SLEEPING PILLOW.
Application filed October 11, 1927. Serial No. 225,493.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in sleeping pillows and aims to provide a pillow wherein the core thereof is of spring construction employed in lleu of the usual feather or other pillow material. By reason of the present invention there is provided a pillow having high cushion qualities and that will not be affected in so far as thecushioning construction is' concerned,
even though the pillow casing becomes broken.
An important object of this invention is to provide a pillow of this character that is quite simple of construction and inexpensive of manufacture and wherein the life thereof is practically indefinite. p
IVith the foregoing and other ob ects in View as the nature of the invention will be I better understood, the same comprises the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and claimed.
In the drawing wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views Figure 1 is a perspective of a pillow constructed in accordance with the present invention.
and
Figure 3 is a transverse section. Now havingparticular reference to the drawings, my novel pillow consists generally of a core comprising inner and outer concentrically spaced cylinders 5 and 6 constructed preferably of screen wiring. However, these cylinders may be of other suitable slightly flexible material. are preferably of oval shape in cross section as disclosed in Fig. 3 and arranged within the center of the innermost cylinder 5 in spaced longitudinal manner are double conical springs 7 while arranged between the inner and outer cylinders at the ends of these springs 7 are short circular springs 8 provided for maintaining'the cylinders innormal spaced concentric relation.
Figure 2 is a detail, longitudinal section,-
These cylinders The innermost cylinder 5 is of less length than the outermost cylinder so that the ends thereof will terminate within the ends of the outermost cylinder. The ends of the outermost cylinder 6 are turned inwardly as at 9 so as to provide asmooth edge at the end thereof. After being turned inwardly as disclosed in Figure 2 the ends of the outermost cylinder are bent towards the. innermost cylinder 5 to serve as a further means for maintaining the innermost cylinder in spaced concentric relation with the outermost cylinder. Arranged at the ends and around the core is a suitable filler suchas cotton or the like 10, while arranged over the coreand filler is a suitable covering 11.
It will thus be seen that I have provided a highly novel, simple and extremely serviceable spring cushion pillow that is well adapted for all of the purpoes heretofore designated, and even though I have herein shown and described the invention as consisting of certain detail'structural elements, it is nevertheless to be understood that some changes may be made therein without affecting the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is 1. In a sleeping pillow of the characterdescribed, a core consisting of 'apair of concentrically arranged cylinders of slightly flexible material, expansible coil springs located within the innermost cylinder and in longitudinally spaced relation, expansible springs arranged between these cylinders at the ends of the first mentioned spring and a covering for said core.
,2. In a sleeping pillow core, a pair of spaced concentric cylinders of wire screen ing, springs arranged within the innermost cylinder and in longitudinally spaced rela-.
tion and spring means disposed between the 7 cylinders at top andbottom sides thereof for normally maintaining-the cylinders in spaced concentric relation. i
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
WILLIAM 'J. BLANKINSHIP.
