This invention relates to oar looks one of the objects being to provide a simple and eflicient device which, when placed in position upon the side of a boat will support the oar at a higher point than ordinarily so that it will not interfere with the movement o-f the knees of the oarsman.
A further object is to provide a device of this Character which can be attached in position readily and which will be held in place firmly.
I/Vith the foregoing and other objects which will appear as the description proceeds, the inventionlresides in the combination and arrangelnent'of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Referring to the figures by characters of reference l designates an attaching plate which can be of any desired contour though preferably shaped as illustrated. This plate is provided, at its upper end with a. transverse flange 2 and formed integral with the w plate 1 and extending above the flange 2 is a bearing sleeve 3 supported outwardlyl beyond the plate 1. This sleeverhas an opening 4 extending entirely through it and the opening may be provided, for the greater portion of its length, with a bushing 5 of brass or other suitable metal. The pin 6 which extends from the yoke 7 of the oar lock is adapted to project into the sleeve and to rotate within the bushing 5. This pin has a-supporting collar 8 at its upper end constituting the base of the yoke, and said collar is adapted to bear downwardly on the upper end of the sleeve 3.
In using this device the same is placed against the outer face of the side of the boat a portion of which has been indicated at B so that the fiange 2 'will bear downwardly onthe' side. Suitable fastening means such as screws or bolts 9 are inserted through the plate into the side of the boat and similar fastening means are inserted downwardly through the flange 2 as shown in Figure 3.
By providing the upstanding bearing sleeve 3 the yoke 7 is supported at such an elevation that the oars, when operated, will not interfere with the movement of the knees of the user. As the opening 4 extends entirely through the sleeve water and sedilnent can not accumulate therein and, therefore, the pin 6 can rotate freely at all times. The bushing 5 is advantageous because it makes the pin 6 rotate more easily than would otherwise vbe possible. By providing the plate 1 andthe flange 2 with the separate fastening means the oar lock can be more securely fastened to the side of the boat than would otherwise be possible.`

An oar lock including an attaching plate, a flange extending at right angles from the upper edge thereof, said flange and plate being adapted to bear upon the top and outer side edges respectively of theV gunwale of a boat, there being openings in the flange and plate for the reception of fastening devices, a sleeve integral with thevplate and fiange, said sleeve extending outwardly beyond the plate and upwardly beyond the flange, there being a counterbore extending downwardly into the sleeve from its upper end, the lower end 'of the sleeve being'beveled downwardly toward the plate and the upper end of said sleeve constituting a bearing, a bushing fitted within the counterbore, a yoke detachably bearing on the upper end of the sleeve, a
cylindrical pin extending from the yoke within the bushing, a portion of the upwardly extending end of the sleeve being positioned to overlie a portion of a gunwale when Vseated in the angle formed by the plate and flange, thereby to reinforce the angle. i
