OIL BURNER.
Application fled'lay 17, 1927. Serial No. 192,117.
This invention relates to oil burners; The primary object of the invention 13 to provide an attachment for the air nozzle of.
the fan housingfor the purpose of prevent- 6 ing the ingress of oil from the oil discharging cup to the confines of the fan housing.
More specifically, the invention comprehends the provision of a bent metallic strip secured close to the periphery of the air nozzlc and having its free end extending in a vertical plane in close proximity to the oil discharging cup for the purpose of picking up oil globules dripping from the cup and conveying them downwardly in such a manner that said oil globules will be prevented from entrance to the air nozzle and fan housing.
Fig. 1 designates the top of the oil burner I preferably employ and is a longitudinal view partly in section of the burner with my attachment thereon.
Fig.2 is a front view of the burner showing improved. attachment applied thereto.
Much difiiculty has been experienced with oil burners of this type wherein the oil atomizing or dischargin cup is fitted within the air nozzle attache to the fan housin .for the reason that oil inevitably drips bacfi through the air nozzle to the fan housing withthe consequent trouble. To relieve this situation, many arrangements have been resorted to, such as drip pots in the fan housing, all of which have been more or less unsatisfactory in practical usage. lVIy invention rimarily consists in providing a bent meta lic rod shown generally at 1 having one end thereof attached to the airnozzle 2 as at 3. This ean'be very expeditiously and economically accomplished without any special tools or skilled labor. The free port-lon of this oil collecting rod is illustrated at 4 and extends in a vertical. osition within close proximity to the. periphery of the oil discharging cu 5. It will be apparent that the oil globu es dripping, by gravity, from the rotating oil cup, or atomizing cup, will encounter the oil collectin device 4' and will be fed thereby downwar l in a manner to prevent their ingress to e airnozzle 2 and the fan housim 6. \Vithin the fan housing there is provided, as usual with this type of burner, a rotatable fan 7 secured to a driving shaft 8 driven by a motor 9. This motor also. rotates the cup 5 to which is supplied, in any suitable manner, the oil to be consumed which is fed as afilm outwardly where it meets with the air emitting from the air nozzle caused by the fan blades 7.
It will be observed that the air nozzle 2 terminates short of the oil atomizing cup 5 in order that the collected oil may freely descend without contacting with the peripher of the air nozzle 2.
aving thus described my invention, what I claim as new is as follows: 1. An oil burner comprising a fan hous- 1ng,an air nozzle secured thereto and projecting outwardly therefrom, a rotatable fan within the housing, a rotatable oil discharging cup within the housing and projecting into the confines of the air nozzle, a motor for simultaneously rotating the oil cupand air fan, said air nozzle terminating short of the outer periphery of the oil discharging cup, a bent wire of substantially V-shaped formation having one end secured to the air nozzle and the other end projecting in a vertical plane in close proximity with the periphery of the oil discharging cup and adapted to convey oil drippm s from the oil discharging cup downwardly away from the air nozzle, thereby to prevent the entrance of oil into the confines of the fan housing.
2. An oil burner comprising an air nozzle, means for delivering fuel to said nozzle,
'8, wire of substantially V-shaped formation having one end secured to the air nozzle and the other end projecting in a vertical plane in close proximity to the periphey of the oil discharging means and adapte to convey oil drippingsfrom the oil discharging means downwardly away from the air nozzle, thereby to prevent the entrance of oil into the confines of the "fan housing.
In testimony whereof I aflix 'my signature.
