UNITED STATES PATENT @FFECE.
LAWRENCE E. BAER, F ATTLEBOBO, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGN'OR TO THE BARR Gs 'WILDE COMPANY, OF ATTLEBORO, MIASSACHUSETTS.

Application filed July 8,
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in soft collar holders, and the primary object thereof is to provide a holder of this type which is of simplified and economical construction and which may" be easily and quickly produced without the use of solder or other extraneous fastening means.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this type in which the parts are connected solely by pinching or bending a single connecting member.
In the drawings 1- Figure 1 is a top plan view of the invention;
Figure 2 is a rear end elevation, and
Figures 3, 4 and 5 are sections on lines 33, 44 and 5-5 respectively of Figure 1.
In proceeding in accordance with the present invention, a pair of jaw members are provided each of which is constructed of a piece of wire doubled upon itself as indicated at 1 and given a slightly curved formation so as to conform to the neck of the wearer.
The doubled portion forms a rear jaw 2, and such portions are in turn curved or bent upon themselves as indicated at 3, and one end of the wire is then bent outwardly to lie in opposed relation to the jaw 2 to form a rear jaw 4.
A sleeve or connector 5' is employed which is formed of sheet metal and which has open ends in which the curved or bent portions 3 which connect the opposed jaws 2 and 4 are received. The jaw 4 is curled or rolled at its free end at 5 to form a gripping portion which directly cooperates with the jaw 2 so as to hold the collar ends firmly between the two jaws. After the curved 40 or bent parts 3 have been received in the open ends of the connector member 5, the ends of the connector member are then pinched inwardly as shown at 6 to lie within the curved parts 3, as to frictionally and firmly hold the parts 3 in position.
From the foregoing, it will be noted that the entire structure is composed of but two parts, namely the two jaw members, each identical in construction and which may be formed of wire, and the single connector 5 willelillli. latter is formed of sheet material or m 1927. Serial No. 204,331.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:-
1. In a soft collar holder, a sheet metal clamp having open ends and a pair of collar engaging members each composed of wire doubled upon itself intermediate the end of the wire to form a rear jaw, one end portion of the wire being curved to overlie the rear jaw and forming a front jaw and having the terminal of said end portion curled to form a grip which engages the rear jaw, the curved parts of the members being received in the respective open ends of the clamp and the latter being pinched to sfrictionally hold the members to the clamp.
2. In a soft collar holder, a sheet metal clamp having open ends and a pair of collar engaging members each composed of wire bent to form a pair of opposed jaws, the bent portions of the wires being received in the respective open ends of the clamps, the clamps being pinched to frictionally hold the members to the clamp.
3. In a soft collar holder, a sheetmetal. clamp having open ends and a pair of op posed jaws connected at one end and having said connected ends received in the respective open ends of the clamp, the clamp having pinched parts to frictionally hold the jaws to the clamp. I I
4. In a soft collar holder, a sheet metal sleeve-like clamp having open ends and a pair of collar engaging members each composed of a pair of opposed jaws connected at one end and having said connected ends received in the respective open ends of the clamps, the open ends of the clamp being pinched inwardly to frictionally grip and hold the jaws.
5. In a soft collar holder, a sleeve-like clamp, and a pair of independent collar engaging members each having a pair of opposed jaws, said members extending axially of the clamp and having a portion of each jaw received in the respective ends of the clamp and the latter having its ends pinched to frictionally grip and rigidly hold the 100 jaws to the clamp.
