T his invention pertains to lubricating apparatus. It is among'the objects of the invention to provide improved apparatus for delivering lubricant under pressure from a lubricant-expelling device to a lubricantreceiving part.
In the drawings, which show a preferred form of one embodiment of my invention Figure 1 is a side elevation of a lubricantexpelling gun coupled yto a lubricant-receiving nipple;

The expelling device illustrated is rovided with a front head 14 carrying coue" means valve means, the coupling portion ofthe nipple 15, the part 20 providing interior flanged surfaces 21 adapted to underlie the projections 17 on the nipple when the part 20 is turned relative to the nipple. y
Within the part 20, and rotatable relative thereto, is shown a sealing part 24 carrying a sealing washer 25 and presenting extensions 26 adapted to bear against the sides of the nipple adjacent the projections thereoli so as to oppose rotation between the nipple 15 and sealing part 24 during the coupling operation. apertured at 27 to admit passage of lubricant therethrough and is slotted across the top at 28 to permit passage of lubricant thereto when the valve means is open. The preferred form of valve means illustrated is rotary in form, comprising the apertured disc 80 having a projection 31 entering a slot 32 ina part rotatable relative to the sealing part 24, the slot as herein illustrated being in the coupled part 20.
To eli'ect a tight joint, I have provided cooperating pin and slot means for edecting approaching movement between the interior flanged surfaces 2l-and the sealing part24, which in the embodiment of my invention illustrated comprises "cooperating pin and slot means interposed 'between the sealin The sealing part 24 is part 24 and the partr4 20. 'As illustrate end thereof is effected by reason of the pressing of the sealing washer carried by the sealing part 24 against the top of the nipple as the sealing washer is moved to the left or as the flanges 21 are moved to the right as viewed in Figs. 3 through (i of the drawings. It will be understood thatthe sealing part cannot turn any substantial amount relative to the nipple during this coupling operation, because of the projecting portions 26 engaging the lateral faces of the nipple. During this coupling operation, the valve is moving toward -its open positionand is opened substantially at the same time that the seal is effected. During the grease expelling operation, an torque on the stein 13 in greaseexpelling irection tends to tighten the coupling.
To prevent leakage around the sealing art 24, I have provided packing means typified by the cup washer 43 (Figs. 3 and 8) to seal the joint. The pressure of the lubricant against the valve disc 30 tends to keep it tightly seated against the sealing part 24 with which it is adapted to reeipro cate.
While I have shown and described a preferred form of one embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that changes involving omission, substitution, alteration and reversal of parts, and even changes in themode of operation, may be made without departin from the scope of my` invention, which is est defined in the following claims.
I claimj 1. Lubricating apparatus including a lubricant-delvering nozzle presenting means for engagement beneath projections on a lubricant-rece-ivinfr nipple, and a sealing part movable relgative to said means toward the nipple to seal the joint around a lubricant-receiving opening in the nipple, and cooperating pin and-inclined slot means for positively effecting such movement, said sealing part having means for engaging the nipple to prevent rotation of said sealing part relative to the nipple during coupling.
2. Lubricating apparatus including a lubricant-expelling device presenting a barrel and a nozzle presenting an opening in its end to receive lateral projections on a lubricant-receiving nipple, a part inside said nozzle presenting portions engaging the projections when entered in said nozzle to oppose rotation of said'part with said nozzle relative to the nipple, and inclined pin and slot means for moving said part toward and from the nipple as said nozzle is rotated relative to said part.
3. Lubricating apparatus including lubricant-expelling device presenting a barrel and a nozzle presenting an opening in its end to receive lateral projections on a lubri cant-receiving nipple, a part inside said nozzle presenting portions engaging the projections when entered in said nozzle to oppose rotation of said part with said nozzle relative to the nipple, and inclined pin and slot means for moving said part toward and from tlienipple as said nozzle is rotated relative to said part, said nozzle fixed relative to said barrel.
4. Lubricating apparatus including a lubricant-expelling device presenting a barrel and a nozzle presenting an opening in its end to receive lateral projections on a lubricant-receiving nipple, a part inside said nozzle presenting portions engaging the projections when entered in said nozzle to oppose rotation of said part with said nozzle relative tothe nipple, and inclined pin and slot means for moving said part toward and from the nippleY as said nozzle is rotated relative to said part, said part reciprocable relative to said barrel.
5. Lubricating apparatus including a lubricant-delivering nozzle presenting means for engagement beneath projections on a lubricant-receiving nipple `and a sealing part movable relative to said means toward the nipple to seal the joint around a lubricantreceiving opening in the nipple, a rotary valve part movable with said sealing part, and a slotl in the rear face of said sealing part cooperating with said valve part.
