This invention relates to a combined governor and water circulator.
An object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is adapted for use in connection with the Ford type of engine so that said engine may be readily used as a stationary engine when combined with my improved apparatus. i
rIhe primary object of my invention is to provide means whereby a Ford motor may be converted into a serviceable power plant for either portable or stationary work, and
my improved apparatus has many advantages, some of which may be enumerated as follows:
It maintains a water circulationv and may take the position ordinarily occupied by the generator of a motor.
The whole assemblage is contained in a neat and compact casing of approximately the size of a generator and has no complicated or delicate parts to give trouble and is strong and durable in use.
The device will operate automatically, requiring only lubrication from time to time, and will maintain a uniform speed under widely varying needs and work as well as keepthe engine cool under all conditions.
`With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, which will be more fully hereinafter described and point-ed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings- Figure 1 is a view in elevation showing my improved combined governor and'water circulator in operative position relativel to an engine of the Ford type;
Figure 2 is a view in longitudinal section through my improved apparatus; Figure 3 is a fragmentary view in longitudinal section taken at right angles to Figure 2 and showing different positions of the' governor ring.

The section 6 at the end of section 5 constitutes a water chamber 8 having a rotary propeller 9 therein secured on a shaft 10. This shaft 10 projects through the end vof sections 3 and 4, has rotary mounting therein and a suitable stuffing' box 15 may be provided in the end j of section 5,`as clearly shown.
- 11 represents a water inlet pipe which communicates with a vcentral port 12, and 13 is an outlet pipe communicating` with an outlet port 14 in the water chamber 8. This outlet pipe 14 is adapted to be connected to the water jacket of rthe motor 2, and the water exhaust from the motor may be cared yfor in any manner desired.
A spiral gear 16 is secured on one end of shaft 10 and meshes with the large gear 17 of the motor softhat it is driven by the motor. On the shaft 10 I mount a ring governor 18, the latter constituting` a heavy ring having a pin 19l extending radially thereof and through the shaft 10. A second pin 20 carried by the ring 18 and located parallel to the pin 19 is connected by a. link 2l with a sliding governor collar 22.
A coil spring 23 is positioned on the shaft 10 bet-Ween the collar 22 andthe pin 19 to f exert a pressure tending to move the collar in one direction. angularly grooved type and has a crank arm 24 on a vshaft 25 engaging therewith.' The shaft 25 projects transversely through the casing section 3 and has a crank arm 26 on its outer end which is connected by a rod 27 with the crank arm 28 of a butterfly valve or other cont-rolling valve 29 of the carburetor 30 The operation is as follows:
`When the motor is started the shaft 10 is driven through the medium of gears 17 and 16 to cause a circulation of water through the water iacket of the motor, the movement of the water being controlled by the rotary movement of the propeller 9 in chamber 8, as will be` readily understood. As the speed increases the ring governor 18 will move from its normal position, shown in full lines in Figure 3, toward a position at right angles to the shaft l0 and in this movement will cause 'the shaft 25 to turn and through the medium of rod 27 will tend to close the carburetor controlling valve 29. Hence the speed of the motor will be controlled and a uniform proper speed will be had under all loads and at the same time This collar 22 is of the Y a motor of the type described to be used for of the casing, apropeller in the pump chamber, a shaft xed to the propeller and mounted in the casing, means on the shaft for operatively connecting the same to the engine, a ring governor on the shaft, a collar moved by the `governor, a shaft projecting through the casing',L a crank arm on the shaft oper atively engaging the collar, a second crank arm on the shaft, and a rod operatively connecting said second crank arm with the carburetor controlling valve of the engine.
