ORNAMENTAL TOY DOLL.
Application filedJanuary 22, 1927. Serial No. 162354.
This invention relates to dolls, and par-- tieularly to a doll made in several sections a Hawaiian hula hula dancer, with a space beween the upper portion of the body and the abdominal section, and a space between the legs and the abdominal section, and the abdominal section held in a suspended. position between the upper portion, of the body and legs by means of the elastic skirt which is attached to both the upper portion of the body and the abdomical section, with the tasselated cords or fringe hanging below the skirt.
A further object of the invention is to provide an ornament for an automobile radi ator cap, or other moving object, the ornament in form of a doll, with the upper portion thereof rigidly attached to the legs by rods connecting the same with a suitable space between the fixed portions, for a hollow abdominal section of the doll to be movably suspended from the upper section by an elastic band with a fringed skirt connected to the abdominal section, the arrangement of the whole to resemble an Indian dancer, and when the doll is moved, as on an automobile on the street, the abdominal secspace between the fixed portions to permit a tion will rise and fall, raising and lowering the fringe, portraying the appearance of a living dancer in the Indian dance, or shimmy. I
The invention is further illustrated by the accompanying drawings, of which Fi ure 1 represents a front elevation of the 011.
Figure 2 represents a side elevation thereof in section.
Like numerals on the diiferent figures rep resent like parts.
1 represents the upper portion of the doll with head and arms in any desired position, the legs 2 forming the lower portion or section of the body, with rods 3 attached to the upper and lower section and extendlng between the same, and holding the fixed por tionsat a suitable space apart from the free mounting of the central or abdominal section a of the body, the upper and lower'sections are preferably solid, for providing secure attachment for the rods, while the central section is hollow, to fit around the rods, and is connected to and'suspended from the upper section by a rubber orelastic band 5, which fits snugly around the upper section and the middle section with the upper edge turned down as a fold 6 over reinforcing elastic bands 7. i p
The middle portion 4 is shorter than the distance between the upper and lower section leaving spaces 8 above and below so that the middle portion has play and room to move up and down between the fixed portions 1 and 2. A skirt preferably of fringe as 10 is attached to the middle or abdominal section, by means of elastic bands 11 or other suitable means, and serves to further, em-
phasize the movements of the central section 7 when the doll is moved, and also resembles the grasses or similar forms of loose coverings used by Indian dancers.
In use the doll may be mounted on anautomobile radiator cap, or other position on an automobile or other movable object, and when the doll is moved thereby, the middle portion, being suspendedon the elastic band. will vibrate in swaying and rising and falling motions, and thereby moving the skirt in similar ways, and'producing the eiiect of a human dancer.
li iy invention NS not lnnited to elastic band connection but'covers any resilient connec-.
tions for holding the central sectionin the tremulous motion, as by coil springs which may be mounted within the middle sectlon and attached thereto and also attached to attached to the abdominal section, the lower lip skirt attached to the central section and suspended therefrom a suitable distance.
3. A toy or the like comprising a suitable upright figure having supporting leg portions, an abdominal portion and a head and chest portion, the latter rigidly secured to the, leg portion. the abdominal portion spaced from both the other portions and suspended from the head and chest portion for swinging movement relatively to both said other portions.
In testin'iony whereof I atlix my signature.
