ACTUATING MECHANISM; FOR SPINNING AND TWISTING MACHINES.
Application filed April 7, 1927,Serial 18'0. 181,777, and 'in Switzerland April 16, 1926.
This invention is concerned with an improved actuating mechanism for spinning, twisting and the like machines, particularly of so-called double sided machines having two distanced pinion-driven main shafts for the actuation of the spindles and of the feeding and stretching mechanisms. As
far as Iknow the actuation of this type of spinning and twisting machinery has so far hitherto been effected individually for each machine side by independentmechanism or by a mechanism common to both sides and so constructed and arranged that either one side only is in operation and the other one at rest or that both sides are run simulta neously and at one variable speed, so that an independent speed variation on both sides of the machine is not possible.
According to this present invention the main driving pinions arranged on both machine sides for the actuation of the respective spindles and feeding and stretching appliances are so arranged as to cooperate, respectively, with a special intermediate pinion of such a size and location that both intermediate pinions may mesh witheach other and with their respectivemain pm ions, when being in their one operative position, in order that both sides may) by one motor and at an unvaria le, preferably the same, speed, means being provided for also so locating at least the one ofthe ins tel-mediate pinions that the same are no motors and at any longer in mutual intermeshment but are merely meshing with their respective-main pinions so that the machine sides can be driven in mutual independence by separate desired variation of their actual and relative speeds. It thus becomes possible to either drive both sides of the ma chine and the spindles and stretching and feeding mechanisms pertaining thereto at the same speed or unvariable speed ratio and by means of one motor orto drive them at the same or at different speeds by means of two motors, whereby the efliciency pf this type of spinning and twisting machines is considerably increased at the exclusion of an increase of the number of operating parts.
In the drawing illustrating a preferred embodiment of my invention Fi 1 is a front view of the main hearing s the shield cover being omitted for the sake r e se? i lustra be driven ield of a spinning or twisting machine,
Figs. 2 and 3 are side and plane views respectively of Fig.1,
Fig, 4 is a fractional front view correspondmg to Fig. 1, after the intermediate pinions having been dislocated for independ ent drive of bothmachine sides.
Fig. 5 is a plane view of the pinion setting illustrated in Fig. 4. i
The machine illustrated in the drawing and embodyin my invention belongs to the so-calledwdoub e-sided type of spinnin and twisting machinery at which the 'spindlesl are driven by worm gears 2 and a common actuating shaft 3. Machines of this type require, that the actuating shaft be driven in a definite direction with relation to the spindles 1, in order that the spindles may be kept in their proper positions by the pressure of the worm gears. The. shaft 3 is carried by the spindle beam {1, its end projectng into and carrying within the main bearng shaft 5 anactuating pinion 6. The pinions 6 are meshing, respectively, with a main, actuatin pinion/I carried by a main actuating shaft 8 which is supported in and by. shield Between the main pinions 7 I so arrange two pinions?! on shafts 10'that the same mesh with each other and with the main pinions 7, as illustrated in Figs. 1-3. The
shafts 10 are at their outwardly projecting ends provided with coupling means 11 for the attachment to the shaft of a motor, by which the shafts 10 and their pinions 9 may be rotated. When the pinions 9 are in inthe pinions 9 and 7 of both machine sides are PIOVlClQCl w1th the same number of teeth respectively, will thus run at the same number of revolutions.
It is frequently required however in the actual use of such machines, that both sides be independently driven in order that yarn of different kind may be produced on and by both machine sides. For this purpose my improved machine requires no additional parts or mechanisms, it being only necessary to withdraw the pinions 9 with their shafts 10 and to mount them into bearings 13 arranged on the main bearin shield 5 so that the pinions 9 are only meshing with their respective main pinions 7, as illustrated in Figs. 4 and 5. Since either shaft 10 is provided with the coupling 11 either side can mediate pinion so as to at this position of the pinions 9 be independently driven by a separate motor 13, which will now act on one main pinion 7 only. Accordingly each side of the machine can be run at a different number of revolutions in order to manufacture yarn of different kind;
Preferably the pinions 6, 7 and 9 are located within the brain bearing shield 5 in separate casings let adapted to be closed by lids 15. Tu Fig. 1 the left hand lid or cover 15 is dismounted in order that the inside of the gear casing may be revealed. he main shield 5 can be completely closed by an outer protect: g plate or lid 16 as shown in Fig. 2.

establish synchronism between both driving gears and to per mit actuation thereof by-one motor, whereas, when the said intermediatepinion is mounted in the other bearing it is out of mesh with the other intermediate pinion and only in mesh with its coordinated main pinion so as to permit independent actuation of both driving gears by separate motors.

4. An actuating mechanism for spinning and twisting machines comprising two distanced driving gears each having a main driving pinion, intermediate pinions meshing with the n' ain driving pinions respectively, two bearings for at least one of the sa d intermediate pnnons so arranged that,
when the said intermediate pinion is mounted in the one hearing it meshes with its main pinion and with the other intermediate pinion. so as to establish synchronism between both driving gears and to permit actuation thereof by one motor, whereas, when the said intermediate pinion is mounted in the other bearing it is out of mesh with the other intermediate pinion and only in mesh with its coordinated main pinion so as to permit independent actuation of both driving gears by separate motors, and motorcoupling means for each driving gear.
5. An actuating mechanism for spinning and twisting machines comprising .two distanced driving gears each having a main driving pinion andtwo intermediate pinions each adapted to be mounted in two different bearings, the said bearings and intermediate the intermediate pinions are mounted in their one bea ri1 1g they are meshing with their coordinated main pinions and meshing with each other so as to establish a positive train of gears between the two driving gears and to permit synchronous actuation piuions being so related, that when of the same bv means of one motor, whereas,
