It is thereforean object of the present invention "to `provide a shiftable element for concealing the indicia in excess of that needed for a. given period so as to display the exact number of days ,in agiven month.
The invention furthermore comprehends a calendar of the type setforth which includes means `for displaying in a limited practical area the namesof the months, the days of the month and the year date. The rear face of the rear wall 11 alongside of the upper slots 22 and 23, is printed, inscribed or otherwise provided with indicia 28 constituting means ttor guiding the user in setting the elements 19 and 19 to dispose the proper' indicium 17 in registry with the window opening 14. The indicia orligurcs 29 representing the days ol the month are printed, inscribed, or otherwise provided in rows and columns on bearing elements 30 and 31, said bearing elements heilig mounted in superimjiiosed relation in the recess 12 oi the rear wailll of the casing tor transverse or lateral relative sliding movement. These bearing elements are independently guided and movable by pins 32 anchored in the bearing element 30 and extending through slots 33, the said pins having manipulating heads 34. Pins 35 having manipulating heads 36 are anchored in the bearing element 31 and extend into a transverse slot 37. lndicia 33 are printed, inscribed or otherwise provided adjacent the slot 33 for guiding the user in setting the element 30, while indicia 39 are printed, inscribed or otherwise provided on the rear face of the rear wall 11 adjacent'. the slot 37 for guiding the user in setting the bearing element 31. It will be noted that thel indicia 29 onthe hearing element V3() consisting of figures, are arranged in separated sets ot columns and rows, so that upon relative 1 shifting of the elements 30 and 31, a portion or all of the indicia on the element 30 is concealed by the element 31, when displayed through the window opening 15. By dividing the date indicia 29 .unnecessary width of the casing is avoided.
In order to provide means for covering up, concealing or blocking out the dat-e indicia in 4excess of that needed for a Vgiven month, a pair of laterally shiiftable shields 4() and 4l are provided, the former being superimposed with respectto the bearing element 31 or arranged in front of said bearing, and the latter being arranged between the bearing elements 30 and 31. These shields are guided and manipulated by pins 42v and 43 anchored, respectively in the shields 40 and 41 and having manipulating heads 44 and 45, which are disposed eX- teriorly of the rear Wall, the pins extending through the transverse slot 37. The shields 40 and 41' are further guided in their movement by slots 46 and 4 through which the pins 35-35 extend. A suitable chart-43 having indicia 49 is arranged adjacent the slot 37 with which the manipulating heads 44 and 45 co-o-perate to guidethe operator in setting the shields. It desired, suitable instructions 50 may be printed, inscribed, or otherwise provided on the rear tace of the rear wall 11, for assisting the user in properly manipulating the heads ot the pins.
.F rom this arrangement it is obvious that the shields provide means for concealing the date indicia in excess of that needed for a given length so that the calendar month displayed will have the exact number ot' days in a given month.
Stationary indicia 51 are arranged in a row at the upper portion ot the Window opening 15 relating to the naines or abbreviations o't the names oi the days ot theweek so that the columns and rows oit indicia 29 on the bearing elements 30 and 3l are provided with the usual headings.

Preferably the indicia 52 represent only the last tvvo digits of the year number,

The year indicia bearing lelement 54 is provided With an opening 57 whichis adapted to register with the window opening 16 to allow tor the display of the indicia on the bearing element The elements 53 and 54 are guide-d and shifted by meansoi pins 58 and 59 anchored, respectively, in said members, eX- tending through a transverse slot 60 in the rear wall 11 ot the casing, and provided with manipulating heads 61 and 62. AThe members 53 and 54 are provided with slots 63 and 64, respectively accommodating the pin Shanks of the other member.` The rear surface of the rear wall adjacent the transverse slot 60 is printed, inscribed, or otherwise provided with indicia 65 for guiding the user in setting the year indicia bearing members.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that a. changeable monthly calendar has been devised, which' is so constructed as to render the same usable over a period of years and which vwhen so used allows for the -vdisplay of the exact number of days in a given month.
What is claimed is:
1. A perpetual calendar including a pair of relatively shiftable `superimposed elements bearing indicia representingv the names of the month7 a pair of relatively shiftable superimposed elements bearingiridicia representing the numerical equivalents of the year dates, a pair of relatively shiftable superimposed bearing elements having rows and columns of figures representing the days of the month, and a casing having window openings through which certain of the indicia on each of said pairs of bearing elements are selectively displayed.
2. In a perpetual calendar, including a easing having an opening for displayinf` elements bearing the rows and columns oti indicia representative ot the days `of the month, a pair of relatively7 shiftable over lying elements, the outer one having a single set of contiguous sub-divided areas provided with numerals indicating the days of the month, the inner element having spaced groups of contiguous sub-divided areas provided with numerals representative of the days of the mont-h, whereby upon relative shifting of said elements with request to each other and with respectto the casing opening, the proper arrangement ot the numerical equivalents of each month for every year may be obtained.
3. In a perpetual calendar, `including a casing having an opening for displaying elements bearing the rows and columns of indicia representative of the days of the month, and having indicia representing the names of the days ofthe Week adjacent an edge of the opening, a pair of relatively shiftable overlying elements, the outer one having a single set of contiguous sub-divided areas provided with numerals indicating the days of the month` the inner element havingr spaced groups of contiguous sub-divided areas provided with numerals` representative of the days of the month, whereby upon relative shifting of said elements with respect to each other and with respect to the casing opening, the proper correlation of the rows and columns of numerals with respect to the indicia representative of the days ot' the week may-be obtained for each month of any given year.
4. In a perpetual calendar.` including a casing having an opening i'or displaying elel` ments bearing the rows and columnsof` indicia representative of the days of the month and having indicia representing the names of the days ofthe month adjacent an edge of the opening, a pair of relatively shiftable overlying elements, the outer one having a single set of contiguous sub-divided areas provided with numerals indicating the days of the month, the inner element having spaced groups ot' contiguous subdivided areas provided with numerals representative of the days of the month, whereby upon relative shifting of said elements with respect to each other and with respect to the casing opening, the proper correlation of the rows and columns of numerals with respect to the indicia representative of the days of the week may be obtained for each month of any given year, and a pair of relatively shiftable shield members respectively overlying the elements bearing the numerals representing the days of the month, for concealing the days of the month in excess of those needed.
