These objects and others which will be described hereinafter, I obtain in the following manner, reference being had to the accompanying drawing.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a shoe 111 an unlaced position constructed in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a detail rear elevational view of fiap member as embodied in my improved device.
Fig. 3 is a similar view to that shown in Figure 1, illustrating my improved shoe as same would appear when in use.
Fig. 41- is a similar view to that shown in Figure 3, illustrating the extended elements of the flap member in position on the ankle.
In the drawing, the numeral 10 designates a shoe having a sole 11, heel 12, a vamp 13, and. upper quarters 14. and tongue 18. The shoe 10 is pro vided with the usual lining, counter stifleners, and the like, such as common to shoes of general design and manufacture.
The flap member 17 is stitched, sewn, or otherwise attached as at 18 at one edge thereof, to one of the above mentioned flaps 15. The flap member 17 is adapted to extend over the flap 15, and over the tongue 20. The flap member 17 is provided with a lower extended element 19, of semi-circular contour, adapted to extend over the upper portion of the vamp 13, intermediate the flaps 15.
The flap member 17 is loose or free, but adapted to be connected to the tongue 20 and to one of the quartersl, adjacent to one of the flaps 15, by means of quick detachable fasteners such as ball and socket or snap fastenings 21, and 22, having coacting parts carried by the tongue 20 and one-of the quarters 14:. y
The flap member 17 is provided with lower side extended elements 23 and 24,

The extended elements 23 and 2 1, are loose or free, but adapted to be connected together by means of quick detachable fasteners such as ball and socket or snap fastening 25 having a co-acting part carried by the extended'element 24.
The flap member 17 has sewn, stitched, or otherwise attached thereto, intermediate the extended elements 23 and 2 1, a depending member 26, so as to provide a loop, adapted to receive the extended elements 23 and 24, as clearly shown in Figure 1 of the accompanying drawing. The flap member 17 is provided with an upper portion 27 having side extended elements 28 and 29 adapted to engage around the ankle of the wearer of my improved shoe.
It being understood that the upper portion 27 and the side extended elements 28 and 29 may be folded inwardly, when desired. The upper portion 27 being provided with the usual ball and socket fastenings 21 and 22, as a means of attaching the upper portion 27 to the flap member 17 and to the above mentioned tongue 20.
While my improved shoe is especially designed to be worn by persons exposed to inclement weather, it is to be understood that the shoe is adapted for general use.
While I have described my invention in a particular form, it will be understood that the various parts of my invention may be changed Without departing from the spirit thereof, and hence I do not limit my invention to the precise construction set forth, but'consider that I am at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly come within the scope of the appended claims.
