This invention relates to improvements in antifriction bearings.
The object of this invention is to provide an Vantitriction bearing especially adapted 5 for use as a side bearing for railway cars and more specifically, the object ofthe invention is to provide new and improved Vmeans for insuring the return ot the antitriction element to normal position after each actuation of the bearing. i Inv the drawing forming a part, of this specification, Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view taken through portions ofthe bodyand truck bolsters of a railway car, showing -my 5 improvements applied thereto.

As shown, my improved side bearing is applied to the truck bolster and the same comprises broadly, a retaining member, housing or base casting A; an' anti-friction element B; and a pair of side weights or pendulums The base casting A is of box-like form, the same having curved end walls l12V and side walls 13, the latter being extended transversely inwardly on opposite sides of its vertical center line to form inwardly extending anges 1.1i, these ianges thence extending upwardly at 15 to the top of the casting. pendulum membersY arranged'betvveenthe ends of said rollerV andthe corresponding'V 'sides of said housing, each pendulum lmember comprisinga heavy enlarged lower portion pivoted atV its upper end to said pin and also having a relatively light, rod-like portion rigidly therewith, the latter beingl provided with a transversely extending rounded lug at its upper end, said lugs slidably andpvotally engaging inthe vertical guideways y of said housing, whereby said roller will 1- oscillate the enlarged portionsof said pendulums Vto cause the same to be displaced relatively with reference toy the central vertical aXisfof' said roller and in advance thereof to positions of unstable equilibrium when actuated, to return said roller to its normal position when the actuating pressure is released. y

In an anti-friction bearing7 the combination with a retaining member adaptedto be mountedl on a truck bolster and having sion rigidly and integrally connected to said heavy lower portion'7 the upper end of said extension being provided with atransverseliy extending lug, said lug being limited to sli u ably and pivotally move in said vertical guidevvays of the housing when saidV roller moves to either side of normal central position to oscillate the pendulums about their pivotalaxes, the lower ends of 4said guideways being under-cut to permit full movement of said pendulums, the pendulumsreturning said roller to its normal position when the actuating pressure on thefroller is released.
3. In an anti-friction bearingthe combination with a support having an extended bearing surface; of a roller having movement on said support lengthwise of thelatter;
