""SADiRON HOL z flp'plication filed April 6, 1927.. SerialiiNo. 181,549;
The present invention relates to sad iron holders and an object of the invention is to provide a sad iron holder which may be readily connected to or disconnected from an. ordinary ironing board and may, at the same time, be used independently of the ironing board. A further object of the invent-ion is to provide a sad iron holder which may be secured to an ironing board in such a manner as not to interfere with the use of the entire surface of the board.
To these and other ends, the invention consists of certain parts and combinations of parts, all of which will be hereinafter described: the novel features being pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a bottom view. of an embodiment of the invention connected to an ironing board, a fragment of which only is shown;
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same parts;
Fig. 3 is an end view;
Fig. 4 is a side View; and i Fig. 5 is a side view showing the holder detached from the ironing board.
Referring more particularly to the illustrated embodiment of the invention, 1 indicates the body of the sad iron holder which may be provided with flanges 2 at its margin for cooperating with the sides of the iron in order to hold the latter upon the upper or supporting surface of the body 1. This body 1 has at one end a supporting element 3 depending therefrom. At its other end a supporting element is provided having a portion 4: depending therefrom and provided with an offset or laterally eX- tending portion 5. The bottom of the laterally extending portion 5 is substantially in a plane with the lower edge of the supporting portion 3so that the holder, as a whole, may rest on a suitable support as illustrated in Fig. 5. The offset portion 5 has its upper surface 6 ina plane below the iron supporting surface of the body 1. The purpose of this offset portion is to permitthe iron holder to be secured to the underside of an ironing board 7 sothat the plane of the iron supporting surface is substantially aligned with the plane of the upper surface of the ironing board 7.
In order to secure the offset portion of the support to the ironing board, an attaching member 8 is secured to the under surface of the ironing board near one end preferably by screws 9.
Interlocking devices are provided between this attaching member 8 and the offset portion 5. In this instance the attaching member 8 is provided with two headed lugs or projections 10, while the offset portion 5 is provided with two keyhole slots each of which has an enlarged portion '11 through which the head of a projection 10 may be passed and a reduced portion 12 into which the body of aprojection may be passed in order that the head of the projection will cooperate with the underside. of the offset portion. 4 and sustain the iron holder in connection with the attaching member.
Afterthe heads have been passed into the enlarged portions the holder is shifted laterally to carry the body of each projection into the reduced portion 12 of the keyhole slots in the offset portion 5. Inorder to hold the iron holder against movement on the attaching member, the attaching member may carry a latch or detent 13 which is v pivotally pivoted thereto at 14:, so that the to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. An'iron holder comprising a body portionhaving an iron supporting surface, two supports arranged at opposite ends of the body, havingtheir lowermost portions in the same plane, one of said supports having a laterally extending portion with its upper surface spaced from the plane of the 1 iron supporting surface of the body, combined with an attaching plate having provision for securing it to the underside of an ironing board, and interlocking means" on the plate and the laterally extending portion for holding the upper face of the latter'in engagement with the underside of the plate.
2. The combination with an attaching member. provided with depending headed lugs, of an iron holder having a laterally extending support provided with keyhole llO ' attaching member.
