-My invention relates to an improvement in Window guards The vpresent invention `is more particularly intendedas constituting an improvement on the Window guard forming the subject matter of Unitedk States Letters Patentv No. 1,450,117, granted to me March 27, 1923. In common with the aiorenamed patented invention thepresent invention has for its general object to provide a Window guard capable of adjustment to suit various sizes of Window frames.; toprovide a Window guard equipped with 'a novel means for effectively preventing -the unauthorized removal of a guard trema Window frame; kand to provide a Windowguard that may be,y collapsed into small compass when not in use, l v
The speciiio object of the present invention is to improve lthe patented guard in various particulars having reference to the means whereby the locking. bars forming part of the guard are-locked together and the means for securing the collapsible-guard to the Window frame'.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a zpart of this speciiication, it being understood that the drawings are merely illustrative of practical examples ofthe invention.

' Referring at first more particularly tothe form of the invention shown .in Figures ,-1` to 3, a collapsible frame 10" is provided preferably in the form of lazytongs adapted t0 be distended to fit Within a Windowirame `1l. On certain of the endpins .12 in the bars vof the lazytongs flanged disks 13 arermounte'd, the ianges of the disks having transverse holes therein to receive fa sere-W14 or equivallent vfastener Whichthus passes through the flange into the material of the Window trame 11. oblong slots 19 the holes in the one bar 15 might not register with the holes 17 1n the bar 16 in a given adjustment of the frame 10 Whereas the provision of the oblong slots 19 in mesh with the holes 17 insures an engagement of a pin indicated at 21 in Figures 1 and 2 in a manner to hold the bars 15,16 in rigid relation, thereby holding the frame 10 in a given adjustment. An additional pin 22 is passed through one of the series of holes 18 and one of the holes 17 at the same time that a pin 21 passes through a slot 19 adjacent to either end of the slot according to the adjustment of the frame 10.
The pins 21 and 22 are formed with rounded heads 121 as shown in Figure 3, the heads yand the shanks of the pins having threaded engagement and said heads having holes 122 therein to receive a key A.
In the form` shown in Figures 4 to 7 a collapsible frame 110 is fitted atleast at the corners with described flanged disks 13 secured by pins 14v to the window frame. Locking bar 116 in this form of the invention is Iformed with a series of holes' 117 l and bar 115 is formed with a single pin hole 217 to receive a pin 221. The overlapped bars 115, 116 are'received behind the described bracket 20. In the window frame 11,1 recesses 23 are produced and over said recesses escutcheon plates 24 are placed, said `plates having holes 25 through which the ends of the respective bars 115, 116 are adapted to pass to partially enter the recesses:23.
An oblique slot 26 is formed in each bar 115., 116, 'adjacent the end thereof through which slot the central pins 112 of the collapsible frame 110 pass. Also, in the locking bars 115, 116 notches 27 are produced `in the'upper edges of-said bars. By reason of the connection by the pins 112 at the oblique slots 26 the ends of said bars when the collapsible frame is tted into the window frame 111, will be given such a movement as to cause the bars to engage the escutcheon plates at the notches v27 to posij tively engage said locking bars with the escutcheon plates and thus with the window frame. l Latch members 28 are pivotally mounted on the bars 115, 116 and are adapted at their free ends to bear against thek pins 112 when the collapsible frame 119 is fitted lin the window frame 111, whereby to hold the collapsible frame rigid. The locking bar 116 is preferably given a U-shaped formation or staple formed at the end as at 29 toproduce spaced sides fitting over the bar 115, said sides having registering holes 3,0 to receive the padlock 31.
The locking bars 115 and 116 are pivotal- Y ly secured as at 215 and 216 to the collapsible frame 110 by bolts, rivets or the like.
In the form shown in Figures 8 to 10 the frame bars 310 arranged as in the form `edge flange 34 overlapping the -front edge of the case 32, the two being perforated t-o receive the bolt 231 of an interior lock 131 secured to the cover 33, the key of which is entered through a key hole 35 inthe cover 33. Said casing 32 is held'fast to the central pivot at the top of the lazytongs as by a rivet 36. Vhen the cover 33 is lowered the bars 315, 316 are entered in the casing 32 and the front closed and secured by the lock 131. In practice, the locking bars may be disposed at the center, top, bottom, or in other suitable positions.
At the bottom of the guard, the flange of alower disk 13 has a-hole 37 therein best shown in Figure 11 Aand the screw 14'which is fixed in the Window sill has a lateral head or bent upper end 114. vIn placing the guard in 'the window frame it is distorted or bent from its vertical plane suiciently for the flange 113 to pass over the Vhead 114, said head 114 passing through the hole 37 after which the guard is brought to the upright position in the window frame and thereby the engagement ofthe fiange 113 with the head 114 of screw 14 will prevent the guard from being disengaged froml the screw 14 by lifting the guard.
I would state in conclusion that While the illustrated examples constitute practical embodiments of my invention, I do not limit myself strictly to the lexact details herein illustrated, since, manifestly, the same can be considerably varied without departure from the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A collapsible Window guard having elements carried thereby at the sides thereof, said elements having transverse holes to receive fasteners for fastening Vthe collapsible frame in a window' frame.
2. A Window guard formed of collapsible connected members, and flanged disks on said curing the collapsible `frame in a window frame.
3. A collapsible guard for window frames, means to lock said guard within the window frame, said means comprising locking bars each pivoted between'its ends to the collapsible frame, saidbars adapted'to be overlapped, and a lock secured to the collapsible guard at one of the pivots thereof, said lock comprising a fixed casing, a hinged cover on the easing, and a 100k on the cover having a head extending at one sidevof the at the interior, said cover having a key hole axis of the screw, said screw adapted to be 10 leading to the look and the cover and the driven into a Window sill to engage the body 0i' the casing having perforations to Yflanged disk at said hole. 5 i'eceivethe bolt of the lock. v Signed at Lexington in the vcounty of 4:.
